DH fancies a Volvo v50 diesel  I hope he's been playing the lottery.

In all seriousness tho we have 2 cars and need 2 cars. We are DFW but the picture isn't all that bleak really we are just irresponsible budgeters.

Dh's car is a petrol 1.8 13 year old guzzler that has been a good work horse for us but will soon be going to car heaven.

I would probably go diesel then lpg then hybrid.

My work has a honda civic hybrid pool car and i hate it with a passion. Up here we don't have congestion charge, we only drive 6000 miles a year if that and really i cannot justify the extra expense on what is ultimatly an inferior car. Give it 10years and imay change my mind, I used to hate diesels but the newer ones are a whole lot better than they were 15 years ago.

I need to change mine every 3 years as it's a taxi!!!...and does loads of miles....it will be diesel yet again unless they come up with a family sized car that drive as good as my diesel car for the amount of hours per day that that drives..when we are working at full swing the taxi is on the road 23 hours per day 6 days per week...they haven't invented a car that is good for the environment yet that meets those expectations!!!!
I do not think bio fuel is good for the environment as it takes up a lot of land to grow the stuff and then they have to produce the oil from it and meanwhile they have world food shortages!!!!...
If I'm not working then I walk everywhere unless it's a big food shop.If I didn't have to have a car I wouldn't have one....

I think you can do it with any car. If you have been clamped. Depending on how the clamp has been put on you can easily deflate the tyre and then drive out of it.

Is there a car that has wheels that are too big to be clamped?

If it is a chain clamp you can cut the chain off. The bailiff has to proove who cut the clamp off and from there it would become a civil matter.Alao as an added bonus you could throw the clamp away at your local tip As you may not know this but before people do these sorts of things they will always leave a message to tell a bailiff that they have either cut off or are cutting of the clamp. This is where people end up getting arrested etc.

Clad in a blue leotard and wielding a saw, a man claiming to be the UK's first wheel clamp vigilante is offering his services to motorists. Angle-grinder Man - a self-proclaimed superhero - patrols by night looking for unhappy drivers who have been clamped and then sets their cars free.
He promises to take on clamping firms, speed cameras and the congestion charge on behalf of drivers.
An odd-job man by day, he claims to operate in Kent during the week and in London at weekends.
A hotline number on his website offers a free wheel clamp removal service.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/img/v3/start_quote.gif I for one am prepared to fight for what is fair and am making myself available to the public http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/img/v3/end_quote.gif

Angle-grinder Man

On calling, an answer phone message invites callers to "leave a message after the grinding sound".
The unnamed man, who wears a costume of gold boots and crotch-hugging pants over a blue leotard, said he was happy to take the risk.
"It's a public service," he says on his website.
"I for one am prepared to fight for what is fair and am making myself available to the public.
'Deeper malaise'
"I may not be able to single-handedly and totally cast off the repressive shackles of a corrupt government - but I can cut off your wheel-clamps for you."
He says he decided to go "full-time vigilante" in May this year.
"My obsession with wheel-clamping is actually a rebellion against a much deeper malaise," he said.
"Namely, the arrogant contempt that politicians hold for the people who put them into power, and whom they claim to represent."
A Kent Police spokeswoman said no complaint about wheel clamps being cut off had been made by either a clamping firm or a member of the public.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said they could not investigate unless a crime was reported.

Notice how nobody has reported it to the police ? Before anybody says it no it is not me as i only appeared on the scene in sept 06

It doesn't matter Criminal damage is criminal damage whether the clamp belongs to a bailiff or tax evasion....

A person who without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property belonging to another intending to destroy or damage any such property or being reckless whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged shall be guilty of an offence

Meaning of 'without lawful excuse'

Section 5 of the Act gives examples of actions that would constitute a lawful excuse and thus a defence to criminal damage charges (though not to aggravated criminal damage under Section 1(2)). You must be aware of these, particularly in relation to the defences likely to be raised by motorists damaging wheel clamps.

A motorist who damages a wheel clamp to free his car, having parked on another's property knowing of the risk of being clamped, does not have a lawful excuse under the Act: see Lloyd v DPP [1992] 1 All ER 982.

This also includes bailiffs clamping vehicles.

I'd be interested to know which part of your previous comments you would class as "lawful excuse" criminal damage is criminal damage whatever way you look at it and whoever the owner of the clamp.

Instead of inciting people to commit offences why not suggest if they are having hassle from bailiffs clamping cars to call teh police to "prevent a breach of the peace." something that the police are willing to do and without the risk of getting scuffed at the end of it.

You are now back onto your favourite topic AND advocating people commit criminal damage to property. yes we may all love to do that to a bailiff but getting nabbed ain't gonna help the persons case lets be honest.
IYour 2 long posts do not refer at all to anything that we were discussing and in each case each person paid up before the clamps were removed, THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT and then claim your money back.
Whereabouts on sheppy it took place is irrelevant.
Moving on now as this thread has again gone to a personal crusade against bailiffs and the initial promise of the first thread long since lost.

by "Poster" BC would you kindly refer to them by name please.

There is NO EXCUSE whatsoever to be suggesting people commit criminal damage whatever your crusade. no mountain whatsoever, there are people that WOULD follow your guidance and end up in a lot of trouble. You need to be much more cautious of that when posting as you do.

You can't argue with the law. If by making a mountain out of a molehill means stopping others that are having bailiff trouble believing that you are right in what you say then this mountian was definately worth making. end of.

It may well be an 'old piece of advice', BC - nevertheless it is correct.
Another very old saying is that 'Two wrongs do not make a Right'.
If somebody, who is faced with an illegal act, then decides to 'take the law into their own hands' then that person can hardly expect 'the law' to come to their rescue.

What you are saying is correct. In the sense of calling the police if there is going to be a breach of the peace. At the moment the police find out that a bailiff is involved they do not want to know and class it as private or civil. even though the bailiff has broken your arm and has also put your front door in. However the other way around and lay a finger on a bailiff and it becomnes criminal.

Well built - safe - and, providing you drive them sensibly, will return well over 30 mpg. Bit high on insurance - but only because of the 'badge'.
