I am having biopsies done on my tongue and cheek in two weeks with a local anaesthetic. Is it very painful. Wasn't too worried about the procedure itself until I heard that its the worst pain imaginable.
Does it require stitches and how long does it take.
Has anyone had this done. Grateful for any replies

I've never had biopsies done on my mouth, but have had them done on my colon, and my cervix.
yes i'm sorry to say they do hurt, and I spent the rest of the day in bed with a hot waterbottle afterwards on each occasion.
Dunno what to say - I would probably take some painkillers if it is sore after, te stronger thebetter.
Hugs - hope eveything is OK
No stitches will be required I'm guessing as your mouth heals very quickly
I had one done on my cervix and I can truly say I never felt a thing. People had told me that the pain was terrible and I was so nervous. So it depends on different people.
Hope everything goes alright for you. Mine turned out ok and no treatment was needed.

I had one done on a breast lump and felt absolutely nothing. Went straight out for a slap up meal with a friend after....

It will be numbed up beforehand, just like your cheek & tongue go numb when you're having a fiiling at the dentist.
I think someone's been winding you up!!
Good luck!

I've seen tongue biopsies done before, and as Toothsmith says, the patients were numbed by an injection of local anaesthetic first. I imagine the injection itself was not too friendly, but far preferable to having it done without! On some occasions there was a stitch or two placed, but all very minor, and there was certainly no writhing in agony going on.
Hope all goes well.

Thanks you have put my mind at rest a good bit. I was getting really worried about having it done.
Thanks too for the good wishes.

the anaesthetic will hurt more then the biopsy
But even then, it's hardly childbirth!!!!!

Ok that kind of puts it into perspective. I managed childbirth four times, lol,
Decided to be positive here. If its not going to be much worse than a local for normal work then I know I can cope with that and its only going to last for a few minutes.

I had a biopsy for a lump in my breast and didn't feel any pain at all.
Its a bit weird as you can feel the doctor moving about but its not painful at all. I just had a plaster/butterfly stitch thingy on it.
Don't worry, you'll be fine :-)

Never had a biopsy done on my mouth but I've had Somnoplasty done (to stop snoring). They sprayed the back of my mouth with the vilest stuff to numb it (made me gag).

I have had liver biopsies and was warned how painful they are, and although it was a little uncomfortable (a bit like someone probing your innards with a finger - strange, not painful), the anaestisia was the uncomfortable bit, but hardly excruciating. Just a bit lip biting, nothing more! _pale_

My biopsy was on my neck, and has already been said the only painful bit was the anaesthetic - oh, and when they stuck my hair to my neck with the plaster and I tried to move my head  .
I have been told the worst pain is from kidney stones - but am not particularly keen to find out.
Waiting for the result is the worst bit. Hope all goes well.
