Car dilemma that was sold Dec 2007

Hope this makes sense as it's the 1st time i've posted on this board.

Me and my oh sold my car at the beginning of december 2007. the logbook was sent off to dvla and everything.

we bought the car from a salvage site a few months before and we ended up getting 2 logbooks for it-one from the salvage site they sent to us (a few weeks after) and another from us applying for the v5.

in the past couple of months we've been getting parking tickets, congestion charge fines, and loads of police notices stating that driver had run red lights, no seatbelt, speeding etc....

my oh went to the police station to let them know that this wasn't us and they kept a record of his visit there.

last week we had a letter come through from the police pound stating that the vehicle had been seized, when my oh called to enquire it was because the driver had no insurance.
My oh seems to think he can collect it? using the spare log book and the insurance docs we have for the car? however alarm bells are ringing in my head and i feel that if he collects this car i'll be liable for all the charges incurred. does this make sense?

i'm confused

any help is greatly appreciated

You need to get the DVLA to record properly that you are no longer the registered keeper.

As for stealing the car from the police pound, because that's what you are suggesting, I would advise against it. VERY STRONGLY.

I would also strongly advise against "stealing" the vehicle from the police pound. Especially if you have already been to police station to state that you are not the keeper, you could find yourselves liable for the penalties.

If you want confirmation of the date of sale of vehicle then put all details in writing to DVLA and they can send you a letter back to confirm which you can send a copy off to whoever has sent penalties to resolve matter.

thanks guys, just as i thought so i will tell oh to leave well alone.

it's such a shame though that the car will be destroyed as it's a new corsa which i looked after and loved. i can't believe the new owners have treated it so badly :mad:, it's not the sort of car you'd go round driving without insurance, tax etc....

maybe it's just me being hormonal at 7 months pregnant and that lol

It's the new owners problem not yours. Can't understand why you'd want to go collect it if it's not yours any longer and you got your money for it (i.e. it's not been stolen from you)?!

Or maybe it's because your OH has gutter level scruples and morals. I think I'd be locking my purse away if he seems so ready to go and steal something that doesn't belong to him.
