Does fish make you brainy?

I've been reading that the omega-3 oils in fish make you less depressed, less schizophrenic, less aggressive, less distractable, and more intelligent, more focussed, more calm and more sociable.

Is that all true?

At work yesterday, I was really struggling to concentrate on what I was supposed to be doing. It had been a long time since I had eaten fish. So I looked for fish in Sainsbury's, and found smoked salmon trimmings for 97p. Bargain! :)

What's the cheapest effective but tasty way for a single person who can't cook to get the fish he needs to stay brainy? I'm not sure if I'm going to eat smoked salmon every day - so would you suggest supplements? Or are they not worth bothering with? How much fish do you actually need to eat before it makes a difference - and how quickly does it have an effect?

If money was no object, I'd eat fish a lot more often - but it is, so I need advice. Thanks.

Tuna contains a lot of good fish oils...you would probably do better eating more tuna sandwiches!

Eating more oily fish is probably a good idea, but i don't see any point going over the top with it. It might slightly improve you overall health.

If you were schizophrenic, i think you would probably already be on antipsychotics, and i dont think you would be too concerned whether fish oils were making you less so! :D

If eating more fish improves a depressive mood, then why not. Whether there is any evidence to support all this, i think you would probably have to ask a psychiatrist!

Search for Omega and posts by Ted Hutchinson and you will learn more than you ever thought possible! You will also learn that it can be difficult to get all you need through diet, especially without taking in nasty chemicals from fish caught in polluted waters. And you will learn that the best place to buy Omega supplements is Zipvit (http://www.zipvit.co.uk), and I can vouch for their EXCELLENT customer service.

(Then nominate Ted for Post of the Month - August (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=78520) please, he's slipping behind ... and this is my request, backed up by others, nothing to do with Ted at all!)
