Question arising as a by-product of doing something else....

Are paper/card driving licences still valid/legal or should they all be plastic cards now?

If you have paper, can you apply for plastic? Or is plastic reserved just for new applications? What if your paper is falling to bits?

TIA

Yes paper ones are still legal - I just said good bye to mine from when I first passed my test (all green) when moving house recently.

You can apply for a plastic one - following the regular process will cost you £19 (£23 if you do check & send at the Post Office) - but if you're changing your address at the same time it's free (£4 at the Post Office with Check & Send)

Don't think the green ones are valid in Europe any more (you need an additional permit), but pink ones are ok.
