I need some new brake pads for disc brakes on Ford Focus soon. I know they have a bad reputation in past, but they have an deal where the replace them free as long as you keep the car
Whats the catch? Over priced or anything I should be worried about, Thanks

"To ensure your brakes are always at their best, we offer a unique brakes lifetime guarantee. Once you have pads or shoes fitted at Kwik Fit, the replacement of these parts when they wear out is absolutely free to you, as long as you own the car."

They will probably charge you a life times prices for one set. Thus getting their money back on future "free" replacements...

Nothing is free..... hidden catch in there somewhere - may find a 'leaking' shock absorber or you 'need' discs....

and they will try to bully you into replacing every other moving part on the car
find a local honest garage , brakes arent that expensive to replace and should last a good while

Thing to do is 1. ring Kwik fit ask for a quote on replacing break pads 2. Ring Ford main dealer ask for quote on replacing breakpads 3 ring local indi guarage ask for quote on replacing breakpads. Gives all the info required.

also ask what brand pads will be used..will they be genuine?
at leeast you know ford ones will perform properly, cheaper brands may not be so good

The guarentee is subject to you authorising them to carry out all future work they identify as being required when you call up on it
so you can expect major brake components every time to be needed:D

Its based on the fact that most brake pads, (even inferior !!!!!), will last 3 years/30k. The majority of people don't tend to keep their cars much longer than this. +£s for the waranty and sod all cost to replace even if claimed against:confused:

Thanks that's why I asked because I wondered what the catch was. I wouldn't go in unless I knew the prices other places charge, it just sounded too good to be true

I have worked for quick fit in the past unfortunatly, but the deal is legit you do get them replaced, but as already mentioned most people dont normally keep the car long enough to get the replaced for free, or they loes the recipet of the origonal work done.
Also be aware the pads they use are their own brand and are terrible, might aswell stick some weatabix in there instead.
You will also be likely to be talked into work which is not required to be done when your in there. They are really bad for this in most branches, it depends on the manager but 99% of them all try and push for work to be done which just dont need doing.

I know. I had a customer who went into Kwik Ripoff for a blowing exhaust and came out with half the car rebuilt lol.
Then came to us whinging and wanting us to give him the money back...

I used them once, many moons ago in the first few years of my motoring career. NEVER again. That was all it took. They are the worst company in the market and well known for trying to sell you work that isn't needed and at top dollar.
You might go there having priced something and found it competitive, but all the additions you didn't know you needed will be at uncompetitive prices, but by then you are a sitting duck.
STAY WELL AWAY...........

The number of people that change brake pads twice on the same car are very few and far between (as Cyclonebri1 said)
I should imagine you would be able to get the same offer from many garages.

Since the asbestos has been removed from the pads, they don't last as long as they used to - and if you drive an automatic, you'll need them replaced more often.
Cyclonebri1, thought he was stretching it quite a bit at 30k, I'd say, on average, 20 -25k these days.

they also use very cheap pads which IME(having bought from the same wholesaler) were squealy and very dusty

Bit like fuel consumption, it rather depends on how heavy people are with their right boot.
I drive an automatic and I have just changed the front disc pads for the first time at 38,500 miles.:)

I had a nearly new vectra in 99, the discs wore out before the pads and that was at well over 50K, Might well be worth OE pads?

True, I have replaced the OE's with Ferodo's, but will probably never know how long they will last as the car is due for a change soon.:)

Okay thanks guys looks like its best to stay clear. I thought brake pads need replacing every couple of years at most. I have had a couple of cars over years that needed them, in MOT in Jan 0, it picked them up as needed replacing shortly as they are about 25% left, obviously it depends on usage etc

You do get what you pay for, and there are some really cheap cr8p ones out there. It does depend on the right foot too - guess that kinda sums me up a bit! I drive auto too these days and I don't like to hang around, plus lots of hills etc en route to work!
We often 'recommend' pads in ex amount of miles/or next service - some do need doing, some don't. OE is ok, we do use alot of Ferodo, but cheap cheap is not on. They screech and squeal like mad after a few miles!

remember cheapest isnt always the best!
they can cause much more trouble than they are worth, brake fade etc...
