Has anybody had any experience with car tracking devices? Are they worth the money, are there any bargains to be had?
From what I read, it seems you have to lay out around £300 for the kit, and then pay the firm about the same again each year to have you on their network, is this the case?
Any help gratefully received

Can't see the point in them.
Unlike an alarm there is no indication that a tracker is fitted (otherwise the thieves will rip the car apart looking for it), so it is no deterrent to it being stolen.
So all they do is help you get your car back after it has been stolen. I know that if someone nicked my car I wouldn't want it back after it was thrashed.

A colleague of mine has one fitted to his BMW 330Ci convertible - that was stolen using the keys and was recovered within 30 minutes of it being stolen. Without the tracker the police say the chances of finding it before it was either cloned or shipped out of the country were extremely minimal.
For an average run of the mill car no point but for something of greater value and attraction to thieves then i 'd say it's a very worthwhile investment.
