Hi all
was wondering if fellow Rosacea sufferers can recommend a skincare / make up range ??
I have had Rosacea since my teens  quite rare i think at that age ? trust me to get it  :rotfl:
anyway i have tried various ranges over the years ( am 29 now!)
i dont mind paying a fair bit so long as it works, would hate to waste £20 on a cream that doesnt work
also make up,?
have tried various green products that don't work/ make me look like the hulk, :rotfl: and can never get a base that looks good,i have very fair skin :( with rosy red cheeks, attractive
anyone tried mineral make up ?
pleeeease tell me your good and not so good Rosacea buys :)
oops ignore the spelling mistake in the title !!
Hi
There's a website run by rosacea sufferers and they do a range of skincare and makeup. I've found their cleanser to be good, and also their moisturiser. www.acne-rosacea.co.uk (http://www.acne-rosacea.co.uk)
I've also used their make up. I like it, as it isn't too drying, but it does depend on how much coverage you need. (I've also got very fair skin, and my rosacea can sometimes flare up quite badly :( )
Hope this helps

My husband uses Bobbi Brown soothing face tonic. It has got cucumber extract and lavender in it. I think its about £18 for a bottle and I usually buy it for him at John Lewis. He swears by it so give it a try.

You can get a referral to a Cosmesis clinic at a NHS hospital through your GP. They will show you how to apply camoflage make-up (not the Army kind), plus they will supply the right combination of products you need free of charge.

I try to keep my skin care as simple and gentle as possible. I use Liz Earles cleanse and polish and moisturiser and Dr Hauschka for ex foliating and deep cleaning.
Make up I use minerals, Bare Escentuals. However I do find I get a better coverage with Jane Iredale, just the colour is too dark for me for winter use.
The one thing I would advise if going the mineral route, buy the most gentlest, high quality brush you can afford and practice the application of the minerals when not having a flare up as you can really make your face sore with the buffing

I found Barefoot Botanicals suit my skin best and they're very gentle. I use the SOS cream if my skin flares up and I use the rosa fina facial radiance cream as a night cream, as I find it a little heavy for day use but it really helped reduced the redness for me.
I use Tesco's organic brightening cleanser, as Liz Earle tends to make my skin flare up - I think it's the eucalyptus that irritates my skin. For daytime moisturiser I use Aveda tourmaline cream.

think i'm coming in a bit late on this but Vichy dermablend foundation has been pretty much a life-saver for me for nearly two years now. my rosacea is relatively mild but working in a stuffy overheated office aggravates the hell out of it. since i've been using vichy, i might still be affected by the heat but at least the redness is covered! really, cant recommend the stuff enough :j

You got in before me........ :D
I gave up on the cleanse and polish as it left me a bit sore and at that time my skin was horrendous.... :o
I remove my make up at night using Johnsons baby wipes. I then massage in some of the Viridian comfrey ointment. In the morning, its a bit hit and miss with a bit of M & S soap that I got last Christmas and some hot water. I then massage in some Liz Earle light moisturiser and after I have done my hair and the moisturiser has sunk in. I apply mineral make up, courtesy of Elemental Beauty (its a healing one that I use).
It has taken awhile, as regulars will know, but my skin has never ever been better.
You don't have to go with the above. But I do recommend that you use what you know suits you (or doesn't aggravate) and use mineral make up. Forget the green stuff - it made me look worse!
I found the comfrey very calming and healing, tho it did mean I had to be patient and I apply it - quite sparingly - every night.
Too much soap and water it is not good for me.
I hope that some of my above ramblings have been of assistance!

After faffing about with the minerals - I just apply it in a rather cavalier manner now... takes me about a minute! Probably less. I found that when I first used it, the longer I mucked about with it - the worse it was and I over applied it. I also didn't really get on with the kabuki brush and use a slightly different one.
I will try and find the link for the comfrey - you can get it in various places in the high street, but this one is rich in allantoin, which is very healing :D
Be back shortly...
Oh re the brush - I use what they call the little pink brush from Elemental Beauty. Re the application - less really is more.. :D

Think I've done the 'linky' thing ok...
http://www.discountvitaminsandherbs.com/system/module-product_page-detail_bytype-_typeval-_pid-1489
Its too greasy to wear under make up, I apply it at night only - or if I am having a slovenly day in! I does take a good few weeks to settle your skin down, so be patient.

This is the brush I love... will order myself a new one I think!
http://www.elementalbeauty.co.uk/p/product/0804292956-Dumpy+Powder+Brush/
Good luck - and try a mix of what you think your natural shade is with one a few shades darker - it works for me. If you put too much on, I found it caked and settled in lines.... and I don't really 'buff' like made - I sort of quickly 'fluff' it over! I think the secret is finding your own way of doing it that suits you.

I assume you like me know all the food stuffs you have to avoid. :(
Red wine  Spicy foods.:undecided Just to name a few.
Avoid strenuous exercise. :j. But if I don't want to be huge I have to do this one..
Actually I think I do all the wrong things.
I just use dove soap and a mild face cream. Unfortunately I have to take constant medication to avoid server flair ups.
Mineral make up is fab as a none foundation wearer I find it covers up the redness and I don't feel closed in. ( If you know what I mean:o)

Don't expect instant miracles - or you could be very disappointed!
Just take it all slowly, and most importantly, be kind to yourself.
The allantoin in the comfrey and also its in the healing foundation from EB, creates a barrier against, well, not quite the world, but it protects your skin.
I do not want to sound disgusting, but alot of spots etc can be caused from picking ones nose and then touching your face! I'm not saying that anyone does that... honest. But when we are asleep, who knows what we do!! We dribble etc, noses run, but I think (could be wrong) that if you do any of those in your sleep, substances go onto the pillow and come into contact with your face.... basically, the allantoin (comfrey), creates a protective barrier.
Meanwhile, you all know now that I may or may not dribble etc in my sleep :o :o :o

If you research some threads on here - re mineral make up, allantoin etc., you will find me going on about how awful my skin was etc.!! I'd put normal foundation on - which made it worse and sometimes my skin was weeping...
Mineral is so light and doesn't clog, its like wearing nothing. Avoid High street stuff, not sure what ones are pure, if any.
The weather really doesn't help. My skin is not as good as it was in the 'alleged' summer but it is a million times better than it used to be.

If you over apply it, it can go 'cakey'. I find the Liz Earle light moisturiser ideal as its not greasy. I usually moisturise, go off and do my hair etc and then put on the mineral make up. You must let the moisturiser sink well in first.
I think the comfrey at night really deals with the dry bits and spotty bits ok.
Hi, haven't read the forums for a while now, so apologies if I'm coming into this late! Was diagnosed with rosacea about 11 months ago now and have tried a variety of things. I seem to have mine pretty much under control, not perfect, but bearable by doing the following -
cutting out the majority of alcohol (boring I know, but I'd rather not have a red face!). I still have the occasional glass of wine - white or rose, definitely not red!
cutting back on spicy food.
Protecting my face from sun and cold weather.
using Dermalogica ultracalm cleanser followed by Dermalogica soothing spray and finally Dermalogica barrier cream in the mornings (all can be bought for about £20 each from ebay). Sounds like a bit of a routine, I know, but really doesn't take much time. One thing I found is that water irritates my skin, so I avoid it at all costs when cleansing. Just use a cotton pad moistened slightly with the soothing spray to remove your cleanser.
After that I use a tiny bit of Veil cover cream (they have a website, google them). Peach shade does me and you really only need a tiny bit. Blend this in then cover with mineral foundation (I use Avon's, so not expensive) then apply the rest of your make up as normal. I find, however, that I need very little or no blusher for obvious reasons!
At night, I remove my make up using the Dermalogica cleanser, apply a little Anabact gel (metronizadole 75% - prescribed by doctor) to my face and that's me.
Admittedly, I wouldn't go out without my "face on", but then I never did, even before I had rosacea! Always been a make up girl.
Hope this helps as I know how soul destroying it can be having rosacea. It never goes away, but it can be less noticeable if you just find the right routine for you. For the record, was 39 when diagnosed, bit of a bummer, but could have been worse.
All the best.
I have had rosacea for over a year now, and the BEST thing for me is taking Fish Oil Supplements. The ordinary ones from Boots are fine. I started with one a day abiut 6 weeks ago, and now am taking one in the morning and one in the evening. It had a pronounced affect on the quality of my skin within a week. My dietary sensitivities have also become more manageable since I started the oil.
Please please try the Fish Oil. I would dearly love to know if taking the Fish Oil has an affect for some, if not all, sufferers.
Would it be possible for us try our own 'clinical trial' on Fish Oil? I've been to a dermatologist who could offer nothing than the usual orthodox medicine, and the ususal 'Well it just happens and you have to live with it because we don't know what it is'.
Perhaps something as simple as a chemical deficiency can have a profound affect on our skin, but treatable with Fish Oil?
If anybody out there is willing to give it a go, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know.
Hi, just to say, i think this thread is excellent...
Jeannieblue - I am running into you again and thanking you again for your posts! I too am going to try to get hold of some of this little pot of magic and hope it works!

Fen! Thanks for a great post - I think it is the omega oils that are good for skin and hair that may be making a difference...bizarelly, i have found increasing my intake of these nutrients through flax seeds (i am still trying to take the oil but cannot stand the taste of it!) has helped make my skin super smooth and has cleared up some of my breakouts...still there, unfortunately, but it has definitely got better.
I am not sure if it is a deficienty that caused the problem though - I think it for me and many others it is more of a hormonal, coupled with a stress thing - but the increased consumption of omegas hae definitely helped to improve the situation!

I think it is magic - but my skin was a dreadful mess - and it has taken quite a few months... plus holiday in June in Cyprus helped alot (I know :o ). Please give it time, few months and keep it as part of your routine. Think of it as a night cream. Its quite hard, but it softens once you have dug into it a bit. You don't need alot. I'm still using the same little pot that I bought at the beginning of the year. I also applied throughout the summer too.
I'm interested in the fish oil thing. But I am doing my own experiment at the moment!! My skin - mainly ezcema, and spots etc always always flare up at this time of year. I'm itching a bit now... yet it was fine thru the alleged summer... I'm trying the high dosage of Vit D3 which I got from the States.
I'm curious to see if it helps with all the things that I get in the winter - aches and pains as well as the skin thing going on, and feeling miserable too! Get every bug going and all the colds....
I should've started it earlier according to Ted, but will see how I go.
Red - get yourself on to the Elemental Beauty site :D

I've had huge help re make up and skin probs from this forum. Suki and Veronarona being two who have been of great help. We are all 'mates' together in war against skin problems!!
Its funny, we all have similar problems, get bits of info here, there and everywhere and hopefully find what suits ourselves.
What may suit me, may not suit you etc. But I've tried loads and think... that I've got there in the end, sort of, can feel a spot coming up near my nose.... :o bring on the comfrey ... :D

And just for the record on kabuki brushes for mineral make-up - I bought one from Elemental Beauty but my friend got hers from Everyday Minerals which was so much softer. So I ordered one from EM with their free sample kit (even with the postage from the US it worked out quite cheap, but remember to keep order under £17, I think, or you have to pay tax). I use their free sample foundation pots to adjust the colour of my regular foundation (I use Lily Lolo), depending on amount of tan I have.
I don't have rosacea but am still pretty blotchy and mineral foundation is definitely the best I've ever used.

Can you believe I was JUST diagnosed as having Rosacea?!!!!
After all these years - Huh
Anyways Im now on antibiotics for the next couple of months so lets see what happens there
Im a non drinker now days but as an alkie I can assure you I did do my fair share in the past - just hoping I dont get the thick lumpy nose for my past sins :)
Still using the minerals - EB and BE, cant use soap or water at all now so sticking with the OCM and slapping on the Avon moisturiser.
Anyone have a good very very very gentle exfoliater? Still get very flaky around the hair line and eyebrows

i was diagnosed by accident by a locam doctor, who mentioned it in passing. i had to ask about it. although i have family members who have it too. i don't have it bad, but i hate make up, always have felt like a clown wearing the stuff.i use simple products but i have to admit i dont use it all the time. i do find spots annoying i thought they would disappear once i got past 20! its on a rare night out that i seem to light the streets with my red face. anything with caffeine in for makes it worse. but i do tend to ignore the chocolate had caffeine in it.....
Thanks for the positive replies to my Fish Oil ideas.
Just as an addendum, my skin is also more tolerant with swimming pool chlorine. I used to come out of the pool looking and feeling like a chemical-burn accident, which pretty obviously used to put me off!
Poster Red: Flax seeds - remember to crush them to get the benefit of the oils. You could also try 'So Good' hemp oil, it has balanced omegas 3 -6 -9. I like it drizzled on salads as an alternative to olive oil.
I had given up swimming because of the effect of the chlorine on my face. It does make a difference but takes a while to kick in.
Exercising makes my face flush and it can take a few hours for it to calm down but I'm not giving it up.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the posters on this thread, I just stumbled upon it as I am searching for new makeup and skincare (I have rosacea too). I wanted to buy mineral makeup and the Elementals range looks perfect :) I will be buying the comfrey cream as well. I just wondered, apart from Liz Earle, does anyone have any recommendations for a day cream, perferably organic, that would be non-greasy enough to use under make up? I buy organic face products from Ebay and have had some success but if there's anything specific that works it would be great to hear a personal recommendation.

I use Boots Aqueous Cream. I buy the 500g tubs (under £4) and use it all the time. It's not greasy. (I use it in the shower too as you would soap and that really moisturises my skin.) If I'm using it "dry" I take a large dollop and work it into my face.
It's a really good base for mineral make up, which I also use.

That is interesting - I would've thought it would be too greasy, but if you are using mineral make up on top, obviously not.. will have to try that, it would be cheaper too than LE.. :D

I had laser treatment about ten years ago. It was effective but expensive. It did definitely get rid of some of the veins, although some (around my nostrils) seemed to come back quite quickly. I will go back and have it done again at some point in the future.
I use Aubrey Organics moisturiser for sensitive skin with no problems. Not cheap but lasts for ages.

Like a lot of skin conditions, you often get very similar symptoms from very different causes. It sounds like the OP has some kind of metabolic disorder if changing diet is effective. But it is known that in some cases rosacea is the result of a fairly harmless organism called helicobacter pilori (not sure if the spelling is spot on there). This is very easily cleared up with a gel containing metronidazole, the brand name is Metrogel. It may not work but it is worth a try.

when i used to go to the gym i was like a beetroot :o :(
used to feel very self concious which of course made it worse ! :(
Why oh why can't someone invent something to stop this?!! I love running but also resemble a beetroot as a result during and up to an hour after. Id love to be able to just take a pill or rub some cream on my face before exercise to stop it.

It is also the weather and central heating n stuff. Amazingly, I was fine in Cyprus earlier on in the year... and they say that sun shine has nothing to do with skin problems. Right.

I ordered some eye shadows and new brushes and stuff from Nicola at Elemental Beauty. It arrived yesterday - beautifully packaged as per usual. I will play with it all at the weekend.
I am interested in using the eye shadows as liner and to see if you can use it to do an inner eye liner too.
I love new 'toys'!!

Just a quick update - my sample of foundation from Elemental arrived today, beautifully wrapped as jeannieblue mentions, and 2 days after ordering as well.
I was actually quite sceptical about whether this powder would actually cover my very uneven, discoloured and scarred skin, but it is wonderful! I didn't believe it would blend in at all, I struggle to get on with almost any foundation, but is soft, light, great coverage (I used a tiny bit damp as concealer) and my skin doesn't feel all clogged up like with most foundations. I am about to go out for the evening, so will report back on how well it lasts (I usually look like an oil slick by the end of the night).
I am really pleased & excited by this discovery! Thank you jeannie for the recommendations :) :) :)
I also have the comfrey cream on order, as well as organic sensitive skin wash I have used before and an organic day cream. It sounds a bit sad, but I'm sure other sufferers will appreciate how pleased & excited I am by these new discoveries and I can't wait to be fully immersed in my new 'regime'.

For the oil slick I cant recommend the OCM enough, its cleared mine up so much that I actually NEED a night cream :) Now I get a bit of a glow happening around the T zone which I find BE mineral veil copes with

Suki - what is the OCM you mentioned? Sorry, you may have posted it further up but I couldn't see what it stands for.
Well, the foundation lasted through 4 hours at the pub. I reckon I would need a light 're-dusting' if I wore it for a whole day but I am very impressed :)
I am probably going for laser treatment next year, and was recommended glycolic peels to help reduce the scars. Has anyone heard anything bad about the peels? With such sensitive skin I am little worried it will burn all my skin off!!

RachelB & GFN123,
So glad you are enjoying the make up.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow (no work) and will have a play around with all my new brushes, try out the eye shadows - and importantly for me, if I can use them as an inner eye liner, as well as outer.... will keep you informed.
Meanwhile, tho I had some spots (weather....) the comfrey definitely calms them down. Only trouble I have, is if I apply the comfrey each night, which I do, it is quite greasy and I find that it goes on my pillow and makes my hair greasy :o I'm not a dirty person (only in mind :D ) and wash my hair every other day if poss... but it needs it every day at the moment, but really don't want to give up on the comfrey.. well I won't! Guess I just have to suffer the consequences.. :o

Thanks Jeannieblue :) I am thrilled to have found something that actually works for me, make up has always been a nightmare.
Re. the comfrey being greasy, would it be better if you applied it half an hour before bed, so it has absorbed more, or if you put a towel on the pillow? I did this when I was using rosehip seed oil (good for scars) as it saved me changing the bedlinen too often!

Towel is a good idea - should've thought of that - but it would still make hair greasy tho protect the pillow!??
I do try and apply it well before I go to bed - depends how organised I am - sometimes I put a tad too much on. I find that I put it on and whilst watching TV, I'm subconsciously massaging it in more (gently!) - I think that probably helps but not sure. My nose seems less red and 'veiny' since I have been using it - but that could be coincidence!!
I also find that my skin benefits and is less dry. If I have a spot or two (I have just lately :o ), I find that it helps to calm it down and heal. This is my experience.
Comfrey is also good for bruising etc. A bit of ezcema on my leg was driving me nuts earlier and I put some on, its calmed down, but not sure if it was the comfrey or not. I usually resort to Betnovate cream - but would rather not!!
Its all trial and error really, finding what suits you etc. Can't remember now how I found out about Allantoin being a barrier etc. There's a thread on here somewhere...........

I should add that Allantoin (healing barrier - allegedly :D ) is (so they said) found in the Viridian comfrey ointment, which why I went for that brand and Elemental Beauty use it in their healing mineral make up, which is why I chose them. I had tried Sheer Cover and Lily Lolo first, but they made me itch!! I have very very temperamental skin!

I've been playing with my new eye shadows from EB! Lovely little delicious pots that look like they will last me for years!! I'm wearing a shimmering one called Temptation, and with the brushes that I ordered, I wet a small one (think a lip liner) and dipped into a darker shade and mixed in a small empty pot and applied it as an eye liner - perfect and so easy! Made it too watery at first. I then applied some to inner eyelid to see if it would work and it has come off a little (several hours later tho :D ) but think that if I make it drier next time, it will stay on the inner bit.
I am really thrilled! Loving the colours - I asked Nicola to choose for me and said I would like autmnal colours - they are gorgeous and look good enough to eat!!
Admittedly my eyes could look better - but I would need the aid of a plastic surgeon now at my age... I don't think Elemental Beauty supply one of those...... :o shame..

Brilliant - so glad!!
Got a tip... re the eye shadows.............. :o
If you apply them - may be a bit heavily, on a dark morning (like today), you may find that later, when you look in the mirror, you have dark streaks all over your face .. :o :o not a good look. I was a tad cavalier in my approach to applying them and eye liner this morning and obviously the colours went everywhere - but I didn't notice til later..

Good to hear the make up lasted at the wedding Rachie B. Today is my first 'full day' wearing it at work so I will see how it lasts, I think it should be pretty good though, I wore it all day yesterday without touch ups, although I think the lunchtime drinks probably prevented me from noticing if I needed to redo my face!!
jeannieblue - I was thinking, re. keeping the cream out of your hair, I use a cotton elastic 'alice band' thing to keep my hair off my face when I wash it, would this work overnight for you? (It's like a giant hairband, if that makes sense?)
The rest of my goodies (comfrey cream, face wash & organic day cream) arrived today - like a mini Xmas in my office now!! :)

I don't think that anyone has ever tested allantoin for efficacy. Being as it is only used in low levels in cosmetics and is one of those chemicals that pops up in biochemical pathways from time to time it must be safe. I have used in several formulations in the past but I have never seen any benefit from using it. I have decided to stop using it until someone proves it does something.
I don't know much about Elemental Beauty but looking at their website they seem to only use the minimum number of ingredients, with the single exception of allantoin. On the whole I think that sticking to simple formulations is advisable when you have sensitive skin. Is the allantoin the thing that makes EB better for you? Maybe, but I doubt it. I would bet on it being some additive in the other products that is the culprit. I don't suppose you could get them to make you a sample without allantoin to try?
i have started using the comfrey and thank-you jeannieblue....it is amazing...my skin is not completly clear, but it is the clearest it has been in a long time and it has dried out the few spots that were coming out...my skin can have awful spots that become like little pressure points and then end up scarring, but now, the spots have started to diminsh so HUGE thank-you!!!!

But that's the whole point - they do a foundation that's not got allantoin in - we used it - didn't suit as well as the healing foundation and thats why jeanie hunted down the comfrey (udder cream was too much even for her to ask for :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: )
Many of us rosecara sufferers have gone to mineral make up because of the promise of great coverage but many of us are being very irritated by it, I struggled with the itch that bare minerals gave becasue I thought that all minerals were the same - jane iredale also makes me sore, others arent as "pure" so cause caking and dont cover the red. Finally some of us are finding that the EB healing foundation is doing what it says on the tin. I love it so much that I often sleep in it when my skin is really sore/patchy/flaky/scaley worst because it really does improve it over night, I dont wear make up everyday, I live out in the country and dont work every week so no need - and my face always looks worse the weeks I dont wear it - good job the cows cant complain :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

You can doubt all you like, and I really dont wish to sound rude, but I am not a spring chicken, and I have found something that suits, calms, not irritate and makes my skin better.
I have shared that, I am not an expert, and if others find it helps them, then great. Unlike you, I am not a scientist. But I do have experience.... and I have suffered for years and my skin is the best it has ever been. :D
If you want to think that the allantoin in EB is coincidence as to why that particular mineral make up suits me and not irritate me, then fine, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I have - please check other mineral make up threads - tried many makes. they itch like hell!!
I also remove my make with Johnson baby wipes - not the extra sensitive ones (cos they aggravate!!) - this is because, again, I have used just about everything, and they suit me. Guess I am just plain weird.......... :D

Sorry - just seen this. OCM - http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/
Honestly this time last year a new GF (a beautician) was saying to me that I really needed to see a doctor as the amount of oil breaking through on me was unlike anything she had seen. I now get a normal healthy glow with a shift in the bar I work - and thats laying and lighting a fire, cleaning and doing bar and waiting tables and even popping in helping with the washing up.
Its a bit of a kerfuffle getting the mix right for your skin at first, start with say 20/80 and work up and only use it a few times a week at first. I Now only use the ocm when Im looking pretty congested otherwise a warm wet muslin cloth is enough
:rotfl: me too

I am not trying to be provocative or anything, but i have to say, good point, well made.
i am, as posted earlier, indebted to jeannieblue...it is awful when your skin suddenly starts not only to misbehave but to lose control of it altogether...aside from feeling self-conscious on a day-to-day basis, it can lead to scarring and all sorts of misery.
i am fully aware that jeannieblue simply gave the benefit of her experience - she never guaranteed it worked and in fact only ever gave links when requested...i have used the products she has and i have seen a dramatic improvement. therefore, i wanted to say:
1. huge thanks to jeannie blue
2. please keep posting to anyone (and jeannieblue) who can help others with the benefit of your experience

I didn't mean to come across as doubting or critical. I have been reading these comments about allantoin with interest. Its one of the really long standing ingredients and it is really intriguing that people seem to be getting benefits from it. I was just being a bit more scientific than people usually are I am afraid, and looking for alternative explanations.

I think that is fair enough...it is just that it can be a bit hurtful when a perfectly innocent post suddenly gets an unfair criticall response - i have had it done to me on this website, and so hate it when i see it happening to others. jeannieblue simply said that it worked for her and your response had come across (to me at least) as if you were saying - it is all in your head and suggesting that the science is more beneficial than her own personal experience. i totally rate the science, but the fact that jeannieblue posted - without any reason other than to share something that worked for her - should be respected.
anyway, i am not trying to start an argument, and i think it is excellent that you have posted to explain, which i think makes sense. i just wanted to say that science or no science, jeannielue is bang on the money....perhaps from what you are saying, ahead of many people and organisations that would gladly cost us a lot more for her free advice...

You know, its bugging the wotsits out of me.. for love nor money, I can't remember where or how I learnt about allantoin...
Thoughtfully Suki and a few others told me it was udder milk, love 'em.
You've all been very nice to me - but re the mineral make up, I learnt about it all on here. It did take a few brands before I found that EB suited me, and someone told me that allantoin was in their healing foundation - I didn't know it beforehand. It could've be one of several, but I'm hovering towards Veronarona - she knows everything :D
I'm also not sure how I found out about the Viridian comfrey either... but either way, I found it. The odd link or two etc. bit of a google, well, you just have to .. :D
I'm tempted to read through past threads, but I am a tad shattered tonight (most nights if I am honest-need a lottery win and retire :o ).

I'm sitting here 'slimed up' with my rich in allantoin comfrey ointment :D
Me too!
I applied it last night (first time) before bed, but I used it very sparingly and didn't find it very greasy. I did feel like my skin could use 'more' of it somehow, as it was a little dry in the morning. I have used the "big hairband thingy" to keep all my hair off my face and washed my face as soon as I came in from work. I figure it's a waste if my pillow ends up moisturised and not me! :rotfl:
My skin already feels calmer, the mineral make up has been a wonder. It lasts all day at work, no touch-ups, and is the first make up I've ever used that not only looks very natural but hasn't aggravated my skin in any way :) I am so pleased!
If it helps anyone, the moisturiser I'm using is this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ACNE-FIGHTING-CREAM-natural-moisturiser-reduces-acne_W0QQitemZ290213749807QQihZ019QQcategoryZ29618 QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
which is fabulous and doesn't dry out my skin like most acne creams but is light and perfect for daytime, and I'm using this cleanser: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=190023148983
Both sellers are really helpful, Botanico kindly sent me a free sample a while back and wouldn't even accept postage costs, and the other lady will custom blend things if you ask, although I found her creams were too dry for me.

Glad it seems to be helping.... :D
I apply the comfrey depending on what mood I'm in.. plus, as you work down the jar, it gets softer and I found I was putting more on! I think you get to know how much to put on as you know your skin better than anyone. I'm pretty slimed up again tonight - I think the worse the weather, the more slime I need!!
I also need sleep.... just a quick one tonight, busy week - not got the lottery up yet.. :o
Night all.
PS - Not heard from MrsE for awhile. Anyone heard anything from her on other threads or owt??? Missing her.. :o

Re the mineral make up eye shadows...
I really don't have alot of time during the week and need a quick fix really - I used it as an eye liner last weekend and found it to be brilliant, easy and lasting. But, finding a pot to mix it (I used an egg cup :o ), getting the mix right etc., basically, I found it time consuming.
Anyone got any ideas for a quick fix?? :D I allow myself, at most, ten mins to apply all make up during the week before going off to work....
I don't want to get up any earlier.... I allow myself just under 2 hours to get up, down 2 mugs of tea (or I'm the b*tch from hell), then bathroom stuff, hair stuff, breakfast (strictly porridge :o ), then make up, finalise hair, coat on, grab keys and off...
Its the tea thing that takes most of the time but it is a necessity :D

Kudos for even attempting eye makeup on a week day - esp eyeliner
IF (and it is rare as I have really small set eyes) I use eye-liner I use smashbox - fantasticly easy to apply.
If I use the mineral eye-shadow as a liner I use the brush, a bit of spit (well I suck the brush) and the lid of the eye-shadow - you soon get a feel for it

Firstly - smashbox??? :o
Sucking the brush sounds good - years ago when all you could get was 'cake' mascara (my mum used to have it) - they would spit on the brush and then put in on the mascara (bit like a paintbox, with the paints being solid until wetted - explanation for the 'younger viewers'!).
I've been advised tho, not to use the lid to mix it :o :o :o Guess getting the minerals in the jar wet or damp, wouldn't be a good idea.
I'm going to trying spit tomorrow!!
Ta Suki!
Edit:
Health & Safety - recommend use your own spit only. Shared spit is not a good idea.

No need to spit at all , its a cream already
That wee palette is wee, try find one on Ebay. I pointed to that as I love the choices of colours. I dont wear much eye make up because of such tiny eyes so having small amounts of lots of colours suits me - i love the gold, I wear it most nights Im working

Hey Rachel B,
Drinking Aloe Vera gel is known to help with helping to keep Roseacne at bay. You need to take a 100% gel drink, not like some of the stuff you see on the high street. It can be pricey, but this site i know has 10% off just now. I take the juice every day for keeping a bad chest infection at bay and I couldn't do without it. The Aloe drink is known to help with a variety of conditions so I hope you have found this post useful. Check out the website at www.alternativewellbeing.co.uk (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/www.alternativewellbeing.co.uk)
If it works for you you'll be able to wear any type of make up ;)
All the best.

I've really been enjoying this thread and have learnt loads from all of you. I seem to be getting my rosacea under control with Liz Earle products ( I love her toner and the Superskin), mineral makeup, and less vigorous cleansing. I'm also looking forward to trying out all the tips I've read here, just trying to be disciplined and use up my current products first and give my skin a good chance to respond to the treatments, rather than chopping and changing all the time. Having said that I am going to try OCM tonight.
I was so disappointed when the dermatologist I was referred to said there was absolutely nothing I could do for rosacea other than long-term antibiotics! After a bit of internet research it turns out that there is so much that can be done, and the main thing I've found that helped was cutting sugar out of my diet! (not completely though, some things I can't do without) There surely must be some dermatologists out there that understand rosacea more, maybe I was just unlucky.
Please keep the thread going, I really look forward to reading and learning more...

It is a good thread - so too the mineral make up one.
I've learnt so much too - and it is interesting as we are all the same but different! It is all a bit trial and error, and personally, I have now found what suits me - which is great. If only had known all of this years ago...

Hi all
I hope you'll accept another rosy faced lady on the thread - just diagnosed last week although when I think of it I've had symptoms for a long time - I just thought it was normal to go red when you drink red wine :) Anyway I wanted to ask some advice, I don't think this has come up on the thread so far. I have little spot type things across my cheeks and nose. The doc has given me metrogel which I am applying religiously morning and night. But I'm not sure what to do re moisturiser. I've been trying to let the gel dry properly before I moisturise but I do feel it rubbing off as I do it. So should I not moisturise those areas? I'm not sure that's a good idea especially in the daytime since it seems more important than ever to have a decent SPF on...does anyone else have any advice?
Also I understand that it can take up to six weeks for the metrogel to work - the doc gave me two tubes of the stuff which makes me assume I'm in it for the long haul - has anyone had results any earlier? I'm getting sick of wearing foundation every day - I'm normally a quick lick of mascara type :)
And any other advice for a newly diagnosed person also welcome....
Hi all,
Just to let you know that I started taking aloe vera from pukka herbs (I get it from my local Fresh & Wild but I have done a link in case you do not have one near you):
http://www.pukkaherbs.com/file/e1594937b1e0db15cd184c11bcc492c0/aloe-vera-juice.html
It is a little pricey, but I think that it is not something that has to be taken long-term. Try a couple of bottles and then take a break to see if symptoms reappear.

Thanks for this! Does it taste ok? And is it the same stuff they sell in Holland & Barrett?

Hi Belfastgirl,
Wearing foundation is a pain.. which is why mineral make is good. You don't feel like you are wearing any. Just kinda dust it over - less is more! And if you are good and use only pure minerals - its not the end of the world if you can't be bothered to take it off!
You may find that it will go over the gel without any moisturiser. Is the gel drying out your skin?

Have you tried Dermalogica? I would try their ultracalming cleanser. Infact I would go to a good salon, get someone to look at your skin, and give you samples to try. If you don't get a flare up you could then buy a skin kit (smaller travel sizes) before you invest in the biggers size.
Bare Escentuals is great, but I have also got Benefit Bluff dust, a yellow powder which neutralises the redness (also comes in stick form).
Good luck...

I don't think the gel is drying out my skin but the trouble is it doesn't absorb so it's sitting on the surface of my skin. Which means that then when I go to apply moisturiser I rub it off and it comes off in little rolls...it looks sort of like if you had sunburn and your skin was peeling. I noticed today coming from a meeting that it had done this, I must have rubbed my face a bit when I sneezed...not attractive.
Think I might have to explore this mineral makeup a bit more...

It may just sit on top of it. I swear by Elemental Beauty (as prob most know by now!). The lady there, Nicola, is very helpful. I'll post a link to their site and what I recommend, is you give her a call and tell her of your predicament and she will hopefully have some advice - you could perhaps get some testers sent to you - I recommend the pink brush - can't remember its name, but I find it is softer that a kabuki brush to apply it and I like the longer handle too. Suggest you just lightly dust it on - bit at a time.
I'll find the site and come back with a link for you - hopefully!

I use the healing one - cos of !!!!! skin :D I don't use the concealer - just do a light dust on redder bits first, then start outwards and work inwards, but very gently in a very haphazard way generally as am usually in a rush. Works for me!
When I first tried it, I put far too much on and it all caked - yuk!

I know what you mean about the Metrogel, I do wear foundation & you can't put it on over the Metrogel or a moisturiser as it just peels off. It's a topical treatment and doesn't soak into the skin. I just used the Metrogel at nightime, this was enough to clear up the masklike crusty layer of outer skin , It didn't clear up the underlying redness underneath though or the red veins.

Am very excited as have just ordered sample pots from Elemental Beauty - I'm going with Jeannie Blue's recommendation of the Healing foundation. I have finally got my current makeup supply down to levels that I feel I can now justify buying more.
I also tried OCM and do like it - not sure how much it actually does for the condition of my skin, but I do enjoy the oily massage and do find little hard bits ease out of my pores (yeuch, but in a good way)...

Really hope you get on with the mineral make up - you may want to nose on the mineral make up thread for other tips and advice etc.
Just been diagnosed with rosacea this week. My skin started to play up just after Chrismas and has progressively got worse. I have extremely dry skin on my forehead, nose and cheeks with little red bumpy spots as well. I'm so concious of it. I'm a nurse and everybody's been looking at me as if I've got an awful disease. I've been given Metrogel from my GP but have also bought the redness solutions range from Clinique. I find that when I use my mineral make up it just shows up the dry patches even worse. Is it worth me trying a moisturising foundation?

just when this thread popped up again I wanted to say I've also found the night time application enough to clear up the rough skin. Although I do get pretty red if it gets too hot or anything. I'm wearing foundation pretty much all the time now but my regular foundation is still doing the job okay.
alm71 I was diagnosed just after christmas and it was pretty much under control within about three weeks of using the metrogel, hopefuly yours will clear up a bit within a few weeks. My skin isn't perfect but it is pretty much normal :) so there is hope.

Hi Ladies....A post virgin in need of some advice. I'm being treated for suspected mild Rosacea on my face. Hoping to be referred to a Dermatologist on next visit to the Drs!!!!!
I am trying to find a moisturiser that i can use on my face. Have tried several before suspected rosacea, but they all made my face burn and go red :(.....i dont use make up very often, but after all this trouble am now to nervous to try ANYTHING!! After sitting with my hands on my face talking, my face became sore and red, after much thinking i put it down to holding the dishcloth which had been in the soapy water about 3 hours previous, and it must have stayed on my hands!!!
I dont know much about Rosacea and would appreciate some help and advice if possible, especially as the summer is coming and im thinking Sun cream!!! I also have no idea what causes there may be or what has been suggested to avoid !
Please help me ...........

Hi fishingwidow, just to let you know i was diagnosed a bit after Xmas, used the antibiotic cream just at night (as recommended by some kind soul here because it does rub off a bit which does look like your skin is hanging off :)) and it has all settled down really well although I'm being careful about the sun.
Might be worth patch testing some creams to see if you react. But if you can't use them then maybe olive oil? I know there is stuff about the oil cleansing method on here if you search for it.
I think mine was mostly stress if that helps - death of a close relative just before Xmas combined with mad work and other stuff. Would that apply to you?

Hi Belfastgirl, thanks for the reply...mine could be stress related....i have 4 children !!! I know what u mean about skin falling off when using the cream.LOL.. The redness has settled and i do have it mild (if that is what it is) but anytime I have anything come into contact with my skin like the dish cloth thing above then my skin goes sore and red and burns alittle...its driving me mad!! got the Dr next week so hopefully she will refer me to a dermatologist!!!!
I will read through this thread and have a look for the cleansing method...got to get kids moving! thanks again

Hi Fishingwidow!
I found comfrey ointment calmed my skin down fantastically - I did have a bit of hunt to find one that was right! There may be something on this thread or mineral make up thread about it. It is very greasy - you need to use very little, and I tend to apply it at night only for that reason.
During the day I use a Liz Earle moisturiser - light and Elemental Beauty mineral make up - the healing foundation which contains allantoin - it has healing qualities.
Re the allantoin - it is found in some comfrey - and the one I found is very rich in it. I will try and find a link to the one that I found, that saved my life! And stress.......... tell me about it!!
The above things that I found and still use over one year on, are still working for me!! Skin tries to flare up - but it never goes mad! And stays under control, which is amazing for me!
Gonna look for the link now... :D

Thanks Jeannieblue, i feel such a numpty about it all....the Dr didnt give me any info really so when looking on the interenet it all looked pretty scary!! The facial redness is very mild and not that noticable so im lucky, but its strange that certain things that have been on my hands even hours before affect it...is that normal??
I will have a look at the link and thanks alot for that, i desperatley need to find a moisturiser!!!! Just wary of trying anything at all!!!! last time my face was burning and red after using Aqueous cream (excuse spelling if wrong). Thanks again i will have a look

Suki - interesting hand cream Urea is allantoin I believe? If so, sounds like fishingwidow has a hand problem and that could help.
Fishingwidow - what suits one, does not necessarily help another. I'm not a spring chicken, or an autumn one really, but I had at long last (after many many years) found products that suit me. Took a bit of research! If it helps you, great - but no guarantees. And you have to be patient, takes a few weeks or more to see any results - tho the comfrey did calm my skin quite quickly - and once I had the hang of the mineral make up (thanks to advice re applying from the folk on here!) I had good coverage and it also calmed my skin and didn't aggravate it. Again, allantoin in EB's healing foundation helped enormously.
Please keep us informed, if what I use doesn't help you, someone on the thread may have recommendations that could help you. This is a lovely forum and we do try and help each other. So, Welcome!!
