I'm searching for a good quality long lasting foundation. After reading lots of posts on here I thought I'd give double wear a try. I found it cakey and dry. I was colour matched and bought Fresco but feel it looks to pale and chalky. (My husband asked if i was feeling ill.)
Anyway any more suggestions? I quite like clinique superfit but it doesn't last very long.

How about going back to the counter and asking for a sample of a shade darker?

Because I don't like the texture. After a few hours of wear it feels cakey & dry. And I don't want to make another expensive mistake.

I've just been on the sheer cover thread and read through with interest. I've ordered some samples of the Lily Lolo. Its a worth a try!!

I totally agree with your comments about Double Wear. Far to dry and thick - I was told by the EL rep that they are bringing out a lighter version of it in April.
I've recently bought some samples of mineral make-up from Everyday Minerals and found the semi-matte suited me best and have ordered a full set of products though I do feel that it shows some of my fine lines more than a liquid foundation.
However I have never had a 'foundation' stay on my face as well as this. My skin is dry to very dry but I do 'perspire' alot on my face during the day which normally means my foundaion slides off! So far the mineral foundation has given me very good results.

go into John Lewis/Debenhams and ask the beauty counter ladies to apply their foundation and see how it feels-that way you can try before you buy.
I'm a big fan of Nars foundation myself

I was about to suggest a mineral powder but countrygal beat me to it. You need a tiny amount and if you want more coverage you apply another layer (you put it on with a large brush). You can get it on ebay or if you are near London go to Selfridges and let them sort you out. The name you want if you do go to selfridges is Laura Mercier.

DO NOT BUY the L'Oreal one for about £10 - that is not typical.

I use this one - most foundations I find are too heavy for my skin and just sit on top looking fake. This is more of a cross with a tinted mouisturiser and its very light and long lasting. Find your colour in store (one of teh counter applications as above) then pick one up from eBay - often less than half the price.

Thanks for all the replies.
I was colour matched in House of Fraser and the colour looks ok when first applied. Then it starts to dry out & look abit like flour.
Will look into these mineral foundations but don't live near any large cities so may be limited.

Prescriptives stuff is also very good. I was colour matched for their Virtual Skin foundation and although the colour is perfect for me it wasn't as forgiving as the Double Wear and the people I work with thought I was terribly ill as my face looked patchy

what you want to do is when you go to town-go to the beauty counter first and ask them to apply a foundation then shop for a few hours and hopefully you will get a better idea of the quality of the foundation

Two long lasting foundations I have tried (and prefer to Double wear) are DiorSkin Forever Extreme Wear Flawless makeup (what a mouthful!) and YSL Perfect Touch Radiant Brush foundation. The Dior in particular has a lovely texture - feels like butter on your skin! And the YSL is very natural and soft looking too - I like them both..

Before you buy though, go to one of these counters, get colour matched and try and get a sample, or get the counter ladies to apply it on your face so you can see how it feels and looks at the end of the day.
