I've booked my £3 each way tickets Virgin Manchester -Euston and just need to find a cheap way to get from Watford back to Euston. (Wed 5-8pm~)

Via rail / tube seems to be £7.50 / £8.20 (don't have an Oyster card!)

Anyone know a cheap option?

cheers
Cliff

Just to let you know that the first stop on the way out from euston is Watford, surely you can jsut get on there? It also stops at Watford before Euston on the way back. Hope that helps

Cheers, Yes I am getting off at Watford on the way down, but the cheap ticket deals mean you have to start at Euston, so its doubtful you can get on at Watford without penalty.- hence the need to do the ~19miles/ 1 stop to Euston

Buy a train ticket! So you return trip then costs just over £10... still very cheap!!

Let me rephase the question... I intend to get a ticket, but was just after someone with local knowledge to say which was the cheapest option..

you know...like use the tube and buy a XYZ ticket online when the day doesn't have a Y in it, the special offer they don't actually go overboard to tell anyonehttp://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Get an Oyster card - it's worth the effort. You can either cash it in or keep it for another trip.

Can you not buy a ticket at Watford Junction to the next station Watford High Street to get you onto the platform. You can then get onto your train.

Not all trains stop at Watford Junction so going to Euston might be the only option.

I agree get yourself an Oyster Card.

The Oyster fares from Watford Junc. to London Euston are slightly confusing. According to TfL's Single fare finder (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/tickets/faresandtickets/2008/farefinder/default.asp?results=true&from=Watford+Junction&to=London+Euston+%5BLondon+Overground%5D&type=Adult&showfares=Show+fares=) M-F from 0700 to 1900 is £5.50 and £3 at all other times. It then goes on to say Watford J to Lundon Euston inclusive the higher fare applys for journeys towards Euston betwen 0700 and 0930 and away from Euston between 1600 and 1900.

So, *I think* from this your fare would be £3. But don't quote me on that. Somebody that uses that line may be able to advise better.

One thought. You are wanting to start your journey from Euston to avoid the penalty, but you are getting off at Watford J on the outward leg. On the ticket you have you cannot break the journey other than to change trains specified on the ticket. If you attempt to get through the barriers at Watford Junction you may be charged the walk-on fare.

You must board and alight at the stated departure and arrival stations. You may not board or alight at other points on the route. If you do a penalty or full fare may apply.

Thanks.. I didn't fully understand the single fare explanation myself when I read it.

Will be arriving at Watford jct ~9.00pm .. Will there be someone there checking tickets to get off the platform? If so then I can alway opt to goto Euston then catch a train back for £3 :-( - a bit of a pain.

I am pretty sure that WJ has automatic barriers which will reject your ticket, thus you will need a member of staff to check the ticket and open the barrier.

Suggest you check the full open single fare for the journey you will have made, before you make any rash decision as that is what you will be liable to pay!
