This thread is a continuation of this thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=491054)

Clinical depression is a recognised condition that affects people in many different ways often altering the sufferers personality and ability to function in a 'normal' manner. It can affect thinking, judgement, and social behaviour in ways that cause serious problems and embarrassment.

If the depression support thread on MSE is to continue it must be remembered that not all posters on this thread will always be able to express their feelings in a nice, sociable way.

If you find the posts of any particular member difficult to deal with then the ignore facility is available. Just as one person may not be in a place where they can post 'nicely', another may not be in a place where they are able to read said posts.

Please remember that this is a money saving site and medical advice/conditions/treatment cannot be discussed

Exercising a lot, not a lot else today. Been watching desperate housewives and trying to stay awake. I'm not cut out to sit around doing nothing, it wears me out.

I'm sulking because a parcel came addressed to me, so I opened it and it was an engagement ring! I rang my boyfriend and he had accidently got it addressed to me not him... He says he put my name in because he thought they'd send me a card and address the ring to him! Before I spoke to him I was disappointed because I didn't get proposed to properly, now I'm disappointed because I'm not allowed to have the ring until he comes home!

...Its pretty though! ;)

I never even thought I'd want to get married until I met OH. I'm sure when the time is right your OH will propose too and hopefully not do it in the daft way mine has!

p.s yes it fits-I never knew engagement rings were so heavy either! Pity I'm not allowed to wear it.

Congratulations Mayore - I think that's a lovely way to be preposed to (and I'm glad it's pretty:D)

Thanks lots, but I'm not quite engaged-he still wants to do it the proper way. He was mad he got it wrong and I opened it, but he knows that its not my fault. Its gorgeous, white gold with the biggest diamond I've ever had!

Congratulations meyore :)

Thanks Juno! I'll let you all know when and how he decides to propose! :D

Congrats to Meyore on your near-engagement. At least you've got a chance to plan what to wear (and sort out your best undies) for the big question day!

I'm not really posting or keeping up with the thread at the moment, am being a bit manic and can't sit still or concentrate for long enough.

thanks but you'll have to wait till i've cleared out the dogs beds, blankets, leads, poo bags, reflective night collars, water bowls. half eaten tennis balls, several months worth of hair and maybe the occasional biscuit crumb. Oh, & I'll have to find somewhere else to put the hairy hounds.
But in my current frame of mind I'm sure that'll only take a minute, seeing as I'm bouncing round all over the place like zebedee on speed. Might be an idea for someone else to drive...

Quote - whitevanwoman, from previous thread

Who needs a man anyway?! (Miro - don't take offence; if I had a man around, I'd gladly let him do my DIY but there is something very empowering about doing stuff which is usually seen as man's work).

---

No offence taken :D I like a woman who can do the so called 'man jobs'. I prefer women who are a bit 'different', one that likes romance etc but doesn't need diamonds, materials or set out roles. I knew a chap once whose girlfriend did all the DIY etc etc and hated all the things that are associated with women such as jewellery and housekeeping, so he did all the housekeeping whilst she did the DIY etc :) I'd like to meet a woman similar to that with no set out roles, doesn't find the need to declare love by marriage or what she can be bought, liked to be looked after but could look after back. I think it's important that women and men are independent and that both sexes are empowered within themselves, and I don't mean little kids shouting girl power and making me cringe like The Spice Girls when real girl power was the likes of Margaret Thatcher and Benazir Bhutto.

Sadly, like most things, you have to wade through the poop, to find the good.

It's just a shame i'm still wading throught the poop :o

Hi Meyore

Same old, same old, you know how it is.

Went shopping today and yesterday and a few women I came across were being as shallow as per usual.

I say women, but they are girls really, I forget how old I am sometimes :rotfl: although the worst ones tend to be women who once had it but have now lost it and they think they still have it :rotfl:

No idea how I get through the days, decent women around my age and under are hard to find

When does your partner get in? Tonight or do you have to wait until the weekend?

I assure you I'm not evil either, but I do understand exactly where you're coming from. In a way, men are much simpler creatures than women-they say what they mean etc. Women are weird, thats why I don't have many female friends.

Boyfriend doesn't come home until the weekend, such a long time to wait! I hate the fact he has to be away all the time, but the army won't allow me to live with him till we're married. Oh well, that time is getting closer now.

I don't think any females on this thread are bad. It sounds strange, but I don't see anyone on this thread as male/female, young/younger or anything else.

What I find with women, is that women are friends with other women, until a man becomes involved that they both like, then it's all out for themselves. I do meet nice women, but they are usually in a relationship as they are so nice. I don't ever envisage being in another relationship - 1. Because I don't feel I will ever be good enough and feel unloveable and 2. I don't meet many I like - which is strange as i've always had better friendships with females than males. :o

Weekend :o Silly army people :o What part of the army is he in? Is he like in the front line or does he do something a little 'safer' I personally don't believe in doing something unless I know what it is i'm 'fighting' for and i'm against war and violence, so you won't see me with join any armed forces, but that's another story.

Hmmm, I guess I see what you mean. When I met OH, I'd been hurt bad, he'd been hurt bad and we weren't looking for anything, but it happened anyway. I never thought I'd want to be with anyone again.

He's a surveyor type, which is a "safe" job as they go. Theres only 3 of them in Irac and 20 in Afghanistan, so he's unlikely to end up going anywhere horrid. Both his mum and his dad were in the army(his dad still is), so I guess its something he was brought up believing in. I'm not the biggest fan, its not something I would ever want to do.

I guess I need some of your luck as if anyone can get past my 'walls' they must be something special. My last 2 involvements have totally finished me off. I like women and get on well with them, it's just when they start talking relationships, either with me or what they want from them, I start singing loudly in my head and move away. I remember one young lady I worked with a few years ago, she was single and every guy followed her with tongues hanging out. I was in a relationship at the time so didn't really notice her, and then she started 'hanging out' with me on lunch breaks. One day she told me she hated guys who were after her for one obvious reason although she liked the attention to a point, and that she liked spending time with me because I was different although she didn't understand me and admitted she used to stare at me when I wasn't looking as she couldn't work me out and as to why I didn't want her. It was kind of nice, even though she knew she had what it takes, that there was more to her. Sadly, her 2 best friends at work were really shallow and she was easily led, although it was clear she was a sweet girl.

Well, at least he's in the 'best' job possible and not a potential killing machine. I guess if we love someone, we have to accept who they are and what they do, which you have, so it's good you have an exciting time right now :T

Good morning my lovlies  Just having a cuppa.

Victor Meldrew... awww! Is he a bit grumpy? :)

He's (selectively) deaf, arthritic, and has had Degenerative Brain Disorder (canine version of Alzheimers) for couple of years but he enjoys his food, enjoys a short walk and likes to stand in the yard and bark for no reason, so you can say there's still life in the old dog yet.

He's a bit grumpy about being touched round the back end though ( aren't we all?) - probably due to arthritis and he can't cope with youngsters (human or canine) bouncing round him, and he starts to show his teeth to let them know they're going too far; sadly, he doesn't realise he hasn't got many teeth left these days!

Just to pacify Tiff about all this waggy talk, when I've sussed how to, I'll post a pic of him curled up with the puss in front of the fire.

But to justify the waggy talk, I probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him - it's the longest relationship I've ever had and he's seen me at my worst and still stuck by me.

Buzzz.............................

Aww, he sounds lovely. Tiffy hun cover your ears! :D Unfortunately I live in a tiny flat and I work long hours, so not really conducive to having pets at the mo... but one day, hopefully...

Think its just one of those days to be honest - I have a mountain of work to do and its not going well :( I can't wait til I have handed in my dissertation, it'll be such a relief and a weight off my mind.
I'm just about to go and meet a friend for coffee, and moan to her about the joys of life  so no doubt I'll feel better soon. We've all been feeling pretty stressed out lately, so I'm not on my own, but its hard being stuck in your room all day doing work when the weather is so lovely outside!

I was in Bournemouth and Southampton yesterday then home in Edinburgh - didn't feel a thing - too flipping tired to care after our intensive weekend.

Postman just brought me a totally unexpected cheque for £300 from tax credits (I only got about £150 a month to live on at the moment and mortgage alone is £400) & its not a mistake!!!

And.... there's a totally unexpected parcel from my sis who emigrated to Oz 2 yrs ago & who I miss dreadfully. Not opened it yet, am savouring the moment.

Can't believe it!!!! 2 brilliant things at the same time! Better go and buy a lottery ticket for tonight!

Before I spoke to him I was disappointed because I didn't get proposed to properly, now I'm disappointed because I'm not allowed to have the ring until he comes home!

...Its pretty though! ;)
Congratulations:)

I love Surrey, I'm much happier there than I was in Manchester. That said, I have absolutely fallen in love with the city I'm in in Korea. Its a completely non touristy town, but so beautiful and well looked after. Its a city with huge tower blocks, but well kept, clean, friendly, safe, bright with loads of parks, toilets and vending machines. We've extended our stay by another week. We are also discussing moving here for 6 months or so later in the year. Only problem is AA meetings - they are all a train and a subway ride away, on an American Army base. I saw lots of handsome soldiers! I'm here for another 10 days, but only have 6 days of tablets left. Unfortunately I get horrendous withdrawls if I miss a dose, so will have to try and sort something out tomorrow.

CC good luck with the move, anyway the weather's better down south than it is oop north. I love bournemouth and visit that neck of the woods each summer for my hols.

WVW - congrats on the windfall from the tax man - dont spend it all at once because they don't come along very often:D

Not posted for a few days but have read the postings, I have been too busy with work and I have been overly tired. Went to the eye hospital today for my fortnightly check up and was horrified to hear that I have have surgery on both eyes and even worse they wanted to do it today:eek: I told them it wasn't convenient - well I hadn't taken my jimjams with me and as I live alone who would fetch them? Still I have arranged to stay with ex hubby for a while and he has agreed to keep an eye on me (pardon the pun). Trouble is my going into hospital has scuppered his plans for the weekend and mine come to think of it - I have to be in the eye hospital at 8am tomorrow morning:eek:  As both eyes are being operated on they are going to knock me out - it will be safer for the anaesthetist anyway because I nearly gave him a black eye in December when he was administering a local anaesthetic (I hate pain of any kind).

I am scared to be honest with you because I hate not being able to see - so no more reading for me for a while or even playing with the computer, no watching TV either only listening. Hey ho it could be worse, I could be deaf as well.

Hope everyone stays well and has fun whilst I am away.

Hugs to all. ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

Hi everyone, sorry I don't have as much chance to keep up with the threads as I would like, but I hope everyone is doing ok.

I'm feeling a bit fed up at the moment, went to the docs as I've been getting this sort of irregular heartbeat thing, bit like palpations I suppose. She took blood pressure and found it to be on the high side, she basically said that the ADs I've been on for donkeys years (albeit at the lowest dose it's possible to take) are no longer prescribed as often as they have been found to cause high bp and heart problems in certain people.

She wants me to cut them down and then possibly think about changing over to a different AD.

Problem is, I feel depressed pretty much constantly anyway, don't know how it would be if I tried to cut down even more. I also get very  not nice for family who I'm afraid get the brunt of my bad temper.

Feeling particularly weepy today, feel let down by a friend, have pmt and OH away.
Sorry to vent to you all, particularly as I don't contribute much to the thread, but you were all so supportive last time I was on here.

That is one brillliant move. GO GIRL! Excellent location choice.....

1. 3 airports nearby (Bournemouth, Southampton,Gatwick) for ease of escape from UK
2. Bournemouth has officially the best weather in the UK - enjoys a double Gulf Stream effect (bounced off Isle of Wight)
3. It is quite posh eg nearby Sandbanks home to the stars eg Bruce Forsyth
4.Bournemouth has palm trees and topless sunbathing ooh la la........
5. Loadsa jobs ...if you want....
6.I live close :D Surrey/Hants

Have you considered self-move? The MSE way? In 1998, I hired a large transit, moved us from Glasgow to Camberley (Surrey) in 1 day. What a drive, not even time to defrost the freezer....

Sounds like you are only just starting to change your life for the better.
It can be done indeed.

Be encouraged everyone!

Hi Marru  welcome to the thread. I know exactly what you mean about the doughnuts :) I find counselling quite tough at times too. But for me I feel it is worth it, it is definitely working. Everyone is different, but I have been going just over a year, and even after that time I feel I am just scratching the surface!

I think it is possible to get counselling at some places on a means-tested basis. Perhaps you could ask your GP about this, or ask your local branch of MIND?

Guys, can I have a moan? I'm so fed up tonight, its unreal. I'm fed up of doing work that never seems to make any difference to my stupid dissertation. I read books all the time, make thousands of notes on journals, articles, and more books. It makes about 100 words towards my dissertation. 12,000 words is the target, and I'm just no where near that, and I'm running out of steam.

what is dissertation?

Its a long essay done in the final year of a university degree. :)

Ah,

Thought so. When I did mine I first made my index and then I copy pasted everything relating to those headings from books and other sources. Then I narrowed it down, took off duplicates reorganised a bit and just added final conclusions chapter where I summarised it all with my own words. I got average score for it which I aimed for as I just wanted to graduate quickly.

I am behind with my work as was feeling too sorry for myself this afternoon. Need to get cracking as otherwise will get call from boss in the morning (I work remotely from home).

hellooo everyone....Hope you are all well, good and happy. Ive not been online as my laptop is seriously playing up so aswell as having problems with my utterly rubbish laptop and such a rubish nd slow service from virginMedia, I have been unable to come online.Im not happy at all.I know im such a misrable cow when i come on here, i never have anything positive or happy to say. Why??Im always moaning and nagging.Im sorry guys im like this, its only coz i have no one to talk to, i bury everything inside.Ive had and am having so much going on.

nothing is going right at the mo.where do i start.Well, I cant start my course or do it as it clashes with when I pick up DS.The course finishes same time as im due to pick up DS and gt no one to pick him up for me.Im so annoyed and feel let down as they gave me a different time and location.I really want to gain a qualification in childcare and now i cant.Ive looked online to see if there is any home courses I can do but there are none i could find and plus they are not free for the likes of me a single parent on benefits.

Ive been trying to arrnge a birthday party fr DS,it falls on mothers day but he wants to be with his friends so have booked a kids soft play adventure place for 2 hours on saturday.Have been getting his presents and sent msg to spermdonor inviting him to the party.was shocked when he replied he cant make it coz he has to sleep.WTF!!!
He hs a night shift, many times his been to golf straight rom work with no sleep.DS's party doesnt start till 4pm, so he has enough time to sleep.Im actuallt raging with that but its his loss.I mean how can he be so mean???DS is at the age now when he will remember.I am not going to allow spermdonor to muck up my DS's head.

My housing situation is getting me really down.I had a row with the landlord 2day about them not doing the repairs. I was very honest nd told her i wasnt happy nd she told me to find somewhere else but its not that easy.I have no deposit and not many landlords accept housing benefit. The council are not helping.

I had 2 panic attacks this evening. It was on the bus coming back from my brothers.Lately so much has been happening all across the nation.I shouldnt buy the newspaper as it affects me and makes me more paraniod. So many murders, rapes and violence has been going on.I dunno i just felt so ill and i thought i was going to be attacke, shot, stabbed or hammered. Sounds awful, i dont know why these thoughs or paranioa has come over me. I have tried not to read all the grusome details of all the crimes thats been in the headlines lately but theres been so many, so many sick and twisted ppl in this world its shocking. How can one human being treat another human so badly? How can they take a life away like and get away with it?Its horrible living in London, its so rough and worry for DS's future withthe way crime is going. So many strange ppl around, i feel i will never trust a man 100% if i ever meet and fall for a guy.You will never know what they are fully like!!You have crazed nutters that have no criminal record coz they have got away for heir crimes.

Lets hope this new law when a parent can go check the record of a new partner works and stops more tragedies from happening.

Ive ranted again, sorry guys, got loads of pages to read and catch up on, virginmedias getting on my nerves, im trying to deal with a complaint i put in about them but not getting no where.

Its leap year to, maybe 4 years later i might be in a relathionship but i cetainly wouldnt have the guts to proprose to my fella, goodluck and all the best to those that do.To many of u to name individually but want u all to knoe that have been thinking of u.

CB2X

We usually do it ourselves but have furniture and the place is unfurnished, so need a large large lorry and we are not licenced to drive them, even tho our son drives a van for his temp job and OH hired a large van for the last move.

Hi diamond, sorry to hear you're having such a crappy time.

I read an article today about a book called panicology. I suffer from panic attacks too and I worry about everything I can think of. The book is basically about the media coverage of things a how it can create panic.

Did you dare give your child the three-in-one MMR vaccine? Afraid you'll get so fat you'll die before your time? Worried that Tesco/Walmart will swallow up your local store, or will we all be hit by an asteroid first? Every day, the press warns us of some new calamity that will threaten our lives. The risks of simply being alive apparently grow ever more alarming. Life has never been better yet we live in fear. Why do we work ourselves up into such a state?Because these stories are a heady mix of supposedly scientific information and journalistic hype. Our hearts fall for the 'story' and our heads believe the 'facts'. "Panicology" will help you make sense of the jungle of threats. It will explain why things are seldom as bad as they're painted. Upbeat and optimistic in its world-view yet robust and sceptical in its analysis, it will equip you to approach the scares of today - and tomorrow - without panic, but with rational levelheadedness and perhaps a measure of insouciance. "Panicology" is a feel-good book about the oh-so-desperate state we're in.

I decided to order it, I hope it puts some perspective on things for me, but with my luck it'll make me worse!

I hope things start looking up for you soon.

meyore, thanks for the kind words and im sorry to hear you suffer with panic attacks. I thought I was getting better but obviously not. Those quotes you wrote are so true. The media does make it worse but the sad truth is majority of the stories they publish are true. I always think of the worse and I know I need to change the way I think but its so hard. I have gone without reading papers, I have avoided listening to the news but either way you hear of all the awful things that happen in this cruel world.I want to be worry free and not worry but i cant.I can pretend for a while its all ok but i come crashing back down again.

i hope thinngs start looking up to.xx

Hi Diamond, Sorry you are having a hard time at the mo.I hope it helped a little to write it down.It is a shame about your course as i know you were looking forward to it.Don't they have an after school club at your DS'S school? or as your ex works nights could he not pick him up?after all if your course finishes at the same time as school it would only be for a short time.I can understand you being angry about the party,as you say if he can play golf with no sleep there is no good reason not to go.
As to the repairs i would go see the citizens advice and see what they say.As far as i know landlords have a responsability to keep propertys in good repair.
Not sure what to say about the panic attacks,as i am a very"laid back" person i admit i find them hard to understand but i do know they are awful for the ones who experiance them. For a start stop buying the newspapers if they upset you so much. Also try,and i know it is hard, to think of the nice things in the world, yes it is full of bad people but for every bad one there are ten good ones.Think of all the people who work for charities, the samaritans, child line, ect.People who donate blood, bone marrow to complete strangers. There are lots of good people in this world if you just think about it.Anyway hope your DS enjoys his party and that everything goes well ,will be thinking of you take care x

Thanks Gemini. I've got a test, but got to wait till the morning  I want to know now!

Hi folks, just dipping into the thread for a min, been too manic to sit still for more than 5 mins over the past couple of days.

Feelinggood - fingers crossed! I used to work in a sexual health clinic - if you do a preg test in the morning, the result is much more accurate because there will be a high level of chemicals in your wee from it being in your bladder all night. If you do it later in the day after having several drinks, the level of chemicals will have been diluted, and so may not give a strong result.

If you really can't wait and you've got a spare test, you could do one now but just be a little sceptical about the result and do another in the morning to confirm. Usually if you get a positive result on your first test, thats pretty accurate but if you get a negative result on the first test, you should really do a 2nd test to confirm as it could just be that the level of preg hormone in your wee is too low to show.

I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs here. Good luck!

:hello: Everyone,

Hope you are all aright? I went to my parents and enjoyed my lunch, had a sleep for an hour and a half,I am just so so tired at the moment and I just wish I could be awake all day without needing a sleep but unfortunately I do need to sleep and my brain just tells me I need sleep and I go and do just that and I am out like a light.

I went for a walk along the seafront with my mum and then I went back in the flat.Tonight I am watching the film Stardust,I have given mum and dad the film Elizabeth The Golden Age to watch and they will watch it tonight :)

*hugs to everyone

Thanks ILGD for welcoming me. I also LGD, well anything really with four legs and fur. I am dreaming that one day I will have big enough place to have Irish Wolfhound (and 2 donkeys, goats, chicken, rabbits, cats...). At the moment I have two labradors, one mine and the other foster. The highlight of my day is to walk them in the mornings after I have dropped my LO to pre-school. I have moved to the country from London six months ago and just love the walks and the scenery here in SW.

I should probably tell you something about me. I replied to another thread recently that tells something about my situation and how I ended into these forums: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=757033&page=3 (post no 58)

hi marru,
read your stuff.am also in mega debt and am on a dmp with cccs.will take about 25 years to pay back but has been worth the lesson and cccs have taken alot of hassle off me.dh wasnt pleased but have been married 25 years so we have come throu.the lying and deceit nearly drove me to a very bad place so tbh am glad he knows how much i owe, although cos its the same address, its affected his cred record, although they say it shouldnt, it does in the real world.
has been a godsend to find this thread and am privileged to call all the ppl on this thread my friends(whether they like it or not, aha).am so proud of them all cos of all the stuff they go throu each day and still have time to offer advice and listen when their lives are not easy.they are all very special ppl as you will come to appreciate as you get to know everyone.
so stick around and am sure you will be very happy, if thats the right word???.

I've got a black support bandage that's made from some neoprene like stuff. Work don't like me wearing it though. Apparently I'm not covered by insurance if I wear it  But they'd like it even less if I phoned in sick

Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

I need to vent

Dishing up dinner really sent me nuts tonight - it is so irrational and subsequently spoilt dinner for everyone.

I am so tired and trying to sort this move out, still waiting on it being 100% approved. The little things always send me nuts, not the big things.

The other day, something upset me which goes back to my childhood but could see what it was, so hopefully will be able to prevent it happening again or be less tired and cope better. Stress shows in strange ways. One minute high as a kite, next feeling knackered or highly irritable.

I need things to get finalised and get this flippin move done and dusted, and settle in. Waiting is such a blooming drag and makes me worry something might go wrong.

im a self confessed hoarder:o :D - you're not Mr Trebus:D

The last time I had a major sort out was 1999 when I dyed my hair dark/natural colour but not been able to weed out since.

My reasons are:

I will wear it at some time and I dress differently when I move house/have a new lifestyle.

There are more car boot sales down south and my lifestyle will change, so if I don't wear or use it then, I never will and will sort it out.

I do actually wear quite a lot of what I have, but I have a glut of short sleeved T-shirts so think I could paint designs and customise them, either to wear or sell. I have a load of old material I could design things with but do need a sewing machine. I used to design a lot of stuff when I was in my mid teens and would like to do it again.

Juno - brilliant picture!! That is fantastic, I had no idea you could get birds to do stuff like that.

Well, I did the test - no baby :(

ILGD - my situation is a little complicated, but the most important thing is that I love OH and he loves me, and despite what other stuff is going on in my head/life, we are sticking together and working through it. This holiday has given us a chance to talk/think, and we've sorted out a few things and all is well. Congrats would definately be in order (we'd both be very happy) but its not meant to be yet. It'd probably be too soon anyways, but I'd still welcome it!

I now know why I was so irritable last night.

I have a really bad cold and feel dizzy. I don't cope well with being ill, and snap at people around me. My OH was great, son wasn't so understanding.

The weather is dreadful but feel cosy being inside.

I am getting irritated with waiting for the go ahead. I need dates for removals and utilities. Still I can take it easy and get over this cold in the meantime.

Hi Everyone

CC - you sound as though you are suffering from Man Flu:D Hope you get better soon.

My op was cancelled yesterday so now I am at home twiddling my thumbs - or rather I am not really twiddling them but exercising them for the time I next see my boss so that I have the strength to wring her scrawny neck:mad: I have put up with all sorts of rubbish from her - from being laid off etc but the worst was today resulting in a trip to the jobcentre and a rapid reclaim:mad:  I am now trying to get my housing benefit reinstated so I dont get evicted.

I have a busy weekend ahead, tidying up, going to the chemist to get another box of eye drops (minims this time) and generally preparing myself for Monday when I shall have my re-scheduled op, I wont be able to see for a while because both eyes are being done.

Tiff - just love ur puddytats.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Hello Everybody!

March 1st is National Self-harm Awareness Day - hence this post...

This is an excellent resource:
www.selfharm.net
If you are feeling the urge to cut/harm yourself please go to the site now, & follow links to self help.
If you want to understand why people do this, go to the site.

Did you hear the following when you were young?...
"Stop crying, you're a big girl now"
"Stop being a drama queen"
"Calm down!"
"I'll give you something to cry about"
"You're just lazy"
"You're being hypersensitive"
"You can try harder,can't you?"
"I can tell you're angry. Stop pretending"
etc etc

Messages like this leave us confused about our feelings, and unsure how to handle them. Even non-abusive parents might mean well, but be uncomfortable with negative emotions.

You don't grow up knowing how you feel, and how to deal with it - you are taught these things by your care-givers & teachers. What if you were told that crying is bad, and only for little girls? (Aside - it doesn't take much experience as a Samaritan to debunk that one)

http://www.dotolearn.com/games/feelingsgame/

Generally self-harmers have grown up in environments where there was little opportunity to express feelings at all. Whereas, where there are lots of family rows, at least anger and negative feelings are discussed.

There is a myth that self-harm eg cutting is an impulsive act. The reality is for most self-harmers go through a well versed ritual to prepare themselves for the 'act', and then go to great efforts to dress their wounds and make warm drinks, listen to music, light candles etc afterwards.

Do you still live in Camberley? Thats where OH lives

Xx
Hi Meyore!

Nope, but still often work in Camberley. Moved 2 or 3 years ago to south of Guildford/Farnham area. So still close. Massive redevelopment of Camberley town centre underway....are you planning on a move too...join OH?

Discovered in 2005 that could get a nice new big house for not much more that a small flat. Hence move. Who am I to argue with the property market? Plenty of room if anyone wants to come and stay.....

Hello Everybody!

March 1st is National Self-harm Awareness Day - hence this post...

This is an excellent resource:
www.selfharm.net (http://www.selfharm.net)

There is a myth that self harm is a pointless destructive action. The reality is that for some, it is a well practiced coping mechanism which gets rid of overwhelming painful feelings and keeps suicidal thoughts at bay. ie it "works"...

Take care everyone

CB2X
That is so true. I don't self harm but have been close and have been spoken to in that way when saying how I feel.

Complementary therapies are great.

The best ones for me are colour therapy and aromatherapy. Everyone has a feeling about a smell and a colour.

Good Morning Everybody!

National Self-Harm Awareness Day - March 1st

Here's another excellent resource:

http://lifesigns.org.uk/what/
This is a user led site which has, like us at MSE a moderated forum where people can post and share experiences and receive/offer support.
Self-harmers share their stories, including men; help and advice on "coming out" to family and friends. Plenty of links to other support sources. A very informative site.

And WELCOME BACK to Tiffy:j
It did not go unnoticed that it was around Valentines Day that you disappeared....we know what you've really been up to :D ...you can't fool CB2 y'know...!

Happy weekend everyone! I'm working as usual 7 days a week ...yep crazy ...least sun is shining....

new username as don't want my ex reading this post,
but i am a regular poster on here so thought i would ask you guys:o
there is this guy who attends the same woodwork class as myself. i'm 37 he's 32. we get on well and have a laugh together in class.
last week, he came up to me all nervous and said, "can i tell you something"
i replied yes, and he said he thought i was nice.

i replied thanks. was too shy to say anything else. i really am attracted to him, but dont want to say anything to scare him off.

i gave him a lift home after class, and he gave me a hug, and kissed me, on the neck.

i do know that he hasn't got a girlfriend at the mo.

am i reading too much into this ?

It does not look like you are reading to much in it to me.He has told you he likes you, gave you a hug after the lift home so it is obvious he does like you. There is a possibility that he may only like you as a friend though.I would wait and see,his next step may be to ask you out or if you are feeling brave maybe you could ask him for a drink after the next class?

Hi COCO-POPS,
Ah! The dating game....
You want this guy to ask you out?.....

OK, there are 2 things you need to know here :-

1. All men are terrified of rejection by a woman, so you will need to give him a little, erm, encouragement to help him get over his fear. Subtle, though - e.g holding eye contact for the count of 3, then looking away.

2. Men love the chase. They are the hunter, and are programmed to pursue a woman. Do not, under any circumstances ask him out, or phone or text or email first. Allow nature to take its course.

May I also suggest:
www.DatingWithoutDrama.com (http://www.DatingWithoutDrama.com) and
www.catchhimandkeephim.com (http://www.catchhimandkeephim.com)
both free email courses - you will become a man magnet...it works!

Take care

Congratulations on your recent happy news Meyore!!! I am soooo happy for you!!!

Ilovegreatdanes - The laser eye op is not for everyone mind. I know of two people who have had it done and had problems after. It has put me off having it done now so I have decided to try contacts instead. They are a bit fiddly but I'm getting there :)

My Fiance and I make a great team though as I am shortsighted and he is longsighted, so if we both forget our glasses....between us we actually have perfect eyeseight!! lol I can read the menus for him if we have a meal for example and he can tell me whats happening around me!! lol

I am the same with clothes. I go out and buy lovely clothes then when I get home and try them they either dont quite fit, or I make them look disgusting, then they sit in my wardrobe forever. Occassionally they leave while I consider Ebay/charity. Then they go back in... :o
I am really trying now though - I have sold a few bits of clothing over the last couple of weeks. Just doing one or two auctions here and there.
It will be worth it when I can finally pay off my credit card!!

Steph loads of mine are still tagged too!!! It's such a waste really.
I bet you feel a ton better for having sorted through it all though. I know whenever I manage to sort anything out like that I have to keep going back and looking at how nice and clean and neat it is over and over as I feel so proud of myself!!! :rotfl: I know...I'm just soooo sad!!! :rotfl:
I would love my life to be more clutter free but I really struggle to let things go...

CCstar, you sound just like me. Everything can be going wonderful and then I suddenly have huge strops over something tiny. I really wish I could control my emotions a lot more than I can know. At least I don't just sit and cry all day every day now though, so at least I have made an improvement somewhere. :rotfl:

Have you seen how much some customised clothes sell for on Ebay?? You should def look into that :)

Tulip - Atonement is really really good!! I really enjoyed that, though I must admit I didn't think I would. There is still something I don't understand from the film though, but I won't say as I don't want to spoil any of it fo you :) (have your tissues ready if you are anything like me though!!!)

CocoPops - I think you have an admirer.... :p:p:p
It sounds like you both really like each other :) But if it is meant to be it will happen one day :)

Also.....thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.... :o
I feel such a fraud.....
It wasn't my birthday.... :o:o

I don't know why that date was set up in my profile as my birthday but didn't know until QWB PMd me!! I have changed it now and I am sorry for that. Don't know how I have never noticed that before!!

AND I will only be 27 when my real birthday comes round!! 30 indeeed!!:eek::eek:

I did have a good day though! :D
It is my Fiance's birthday tomorrow and we don't have much money so he said he wasn't bothered about doing anything. He went to the pub with his parents but I had planned a surprise birthday party for him and got his friends and family around. It was a mexican party! I had sombreros and maracas hanging everywhere, the buffet was mexican themed - chilli, mexican rice, nachos, chorizo etc.
I got a pinata, pin the tail on the donkey and we played guitar hero.
I bought him mexican lager and served it with limes and made tequila sunrise in a big bowl for people and people did slammers.

He was so chuffed when everyone left he kept cuddling me and telling me how lovely I was for doing something so nice. :) And I am still in a good mood for it today!!

Took me ages to plan everything and keep everything hidden!! LOL

With regards to my current situation I have been feeling more positive about things, and I really really want to sort myself out now as I want to be able to get on with wedding plans etc and basically get on with enjoying what is left of my life!
I get my return to work date on Monday. Scary stuff!! My doctor has had me following a routine though, and suggested I speak to work about this as I work shifts to see if they can do something about the shifts to try and keep my routine running so they are giving me a 9-5 shift! :j This will be great as I will be so much less stressed knowing I have to be there at the same time every day - it will be easier for me. And it means I can go to bed as early as I want when I'm feeling run down etc seeing as I seem to survive on only a few hours worth of disturbed sleep.
I can fit my much needed exercise in etc. I hope it all works out for me.

Anyway Hi to everyone I have not yet spoken to - this new thread is already so long I have forgotten most of what I have read already!!!
(In my defense I suffer from short term memory loss!!!)

And a lovely warm welcome to any new members I may have overlooked!!

BTW someone was telling me about the 12 step programme before, but I can't remember who...can someone tell me more about this please?? :o
