Best way to apply Liquid Foundation....?

I use a No7 liquid foundation and i currently apply it with my fingers but i find that it sometimes goes streaky and blotchy. I wondered what you guys all do? :confused: I have heard that Natural sponges are good or Brushes.......if you have a good product then please recommend!

the ruby and millie foundation brush is good - brushes can take a bit of practice but once you get it rightm it looks brilliant.

i don't like to use a sponge, have heard alot about them harbouring a lot of bacteria...

I think it depends on your skin type.

I use my fingers. I have tried a brush and a sponge, and it didn't seem any better (but no worse). However, I do have clear and even skin (most of the time!), so this may help ...

Agree with angellotz, the thought of reusing sponges doesn't sound too hygienic! x

So what kind of a brush is good then? I personally dont like the way sponges put make up on anyway as i find they tend to smear it on lol......So can anyone tell me what kinda brush i should be going for - if anyone can find a picture as example that'd be really good,not brand particular - just wanna see the shape! :confused:

The body shop foundation brush is one of the best you can buy. It's used by many famous make up artists (and me, but I'm not famous yet!).

Latex wedges are also fantastic for applying liquid foundation (I have a brush but I always revert to wedges when I'm on a job). It's good idea to dampen a wedge though to stop it absorbing too much foundation which is a huge waste.

Both brushes and sponges both harbor bacteria so it's important to keep them both clean. If you're only using a brush for yourself you can just about get away with washing it once a week, but really it should be done daily and left to dry out completely over night. If you're using wedges then just buy a couple of packs, use one each day and at the end of the week pop them in a delicates bag in the washing machine when you do a normal wash. They'll come out as good as new and no need to clean a brush every day!

The trick to applying foundation with either tool though is to "buff" it with a large powder type brush once you're done. That way you get rid of any brush marks/lines from the wedge. Once you've buffed apply powder and brush off the excess. That's how us pro's do it anyway.

sorry to bump old thread but i just looking for the best brush for liquid foundation and just wonder how do you clean it? just soap and water?

I use liquid hand soap and then leave my brushes in the hot press to dry overnight.

Shampoo is fine to use as well

I honestly think sponges and brushes are hugely wasteful of expensive foundation. A Mac beauty consultant admitted such to me once during consultation. (She recommended brushes washed weekly btw.)
Instead maybe, consider why your foundation goes streaky sometimes when you apply using fingers. Is it to do with when you're applying your moisturiser, is it the right formulation foundation for your skin type etc?

I have tried brushes and sponges, but always revert back to using my fingers, also you have a bit more control as to how much you apply in different areas and can blend easily.

Using your fingers is the best way to apply foundation, it warms it up and you can get into all nooks and crannies on your face. You should always use your ring finger!!!! This is the weakest and you will press lighter with it, meaning things don't smudge about as much.

However if you find it is going streaky, use a brush first then smooth over with ring finger. Also Apply GRADUALLY, if you use too much it spreads around everywhere

Also for make-up sponge brush and hygiene, wash with baby shampoo, do not dry anywhere heated - it ruins them, Blot with kitchen roll and leave to dry naturally.

Personally I prefer the mousse foundations, which are very easy to apply to a smooth finish (I have very uneven skin tone). I love the Maybelline ones and find they're best applied with the fingers.
