So guys would like your opinion on the best shampoo/conditioner that you have ever used. :D

I have tried everything from pantene/herbal essesence to paul mitchell and have not found the best one yet...

I have long thin hair, damaged due to straightening i assume! the hair dressers tell me the condition is good but I am not so sure.

Has anyone here used the Tigi bed head range of shampoos? I am thnking of trying them next as you can buy the salon sizes for quite good prices on ebay.

What I would really really love is if I could wash and condition my hair and leave it to naturally dry in a condition that was not frizzy and fairly straight but with a bit of volume!! haha every girls dream I guess.....does any one have any tips

I really like Aveda Shampure - available in House of Fraser, but also plenty on ebay which can be bought in salon sizes. It is for all types of hair, and I don't straighten my hair when I use it and it sits well.

I have very fine hair which can be very flyaway and get dry - and it's highlighted, so not the easiest to deal with. Not at all moneysaving :o , but I swear by Kerastase products, they are the best I have ever used. It's cheaper to buy them from Ebay, and I buy salon sizes to keep the price down.

When I am very skint and have to use something else I always notice the difference - and go back to Kerastase as soon as I can afford it.

:D

I have been using Naked Bodycare shampoo and conditioners for the last 6 months and have seen a real difference in my hair. The products ate 97% natural and don't contain harsh cleaners like sodium laureth sulfate.

My hair is now softer and a lot less dry than it used to be. The products smell lovely too. They are £3.99 each in Boots but there is usually an offer on taking them down to £3 each.

They also have a website www.nakedbodycare.co.uk

I have thick coarse curly hair which I wash, blow dry and straighten with GHD's regularly. My hair is normal to dry.

Used to use Kerastase Bain Satin1 and Lait Vital but they reformulated and added more gunking silicones and went even more expensive.

Am now using Regis Line Olive Oil Shampoo and Conditioner and really liking it. Silicone free, so less gunky buildup for me. Actually got more yesterday as it was on buy one get second half price, so it was about £12.50 which I thought was reasonable.

I use kerastase too. my sister is a hairdresser and I used hers once when she stayed over and have used it ever since esp since I was starting to get reactions to cheaper stuff (anything with modern stuff in eg pantene etc makes me itch like crazy)..it costs a fortune but I get a small discount from her salon.:D

I use an olive oil shampoo as a kerastase holiday every now and again but it doen't beat it (although it's quite good too) <edit - just noticed from post above it is on special...better stock up!>

you dont even need to use conditioner with it!

Another vote for Kerastase - it is the only product that I have ever bought more than once!

TBH I just buy it from the salon. Not Moneysaving but I always forget to stock up and then run out!

I would love to know if anybody has tried either of the night ones too x

I've tried the TIGI stuff and tbh I don't think its that good - I find it hard to rinse out and I always feel there is a residue left in my hair.

IamBroke - have you thought of going more au naturale? The problem with most commercially produced shampoos and conditioners is they contain silicone - any ingredient in the bottle that ends in "cone" so for example dimethicone, is a silicone derivative and these are potentially very bad for your hair.

Have a look at some of the lush products – if you haven’t a shop near you, you can get them on-line and they are reasonably priced. If may just be that you need to use them for a while to allow your hair to recover a bit from the straightening and then go back to some more commercially produced product.

Don't laugh :o, but I have the same kind of hair as you Iambroke, and I use Avon sleek and straight (or something like that) shampoo and conditioner (I buy it when it's 99p each), followed by a little bit of Avon balm while it's drying, and I LOVE it. I usually get fed up with shampoos and change brands every couple of months, but I have stuck with this one for over a year now. My hair feels really soft, it's shiney, it's no longer full of static, and it actually has a bit of body for the first time ever.

It might not suit everyones hair, but it's worth a try when it's so cheap!

(Oooh, I should be an Avon lady, shouldn't I?!)

Just had a look at the ingredients in their stuff and there aren't any silicone based products in there - so these look good to me.

As yenners has said they have seen a difference to their hair so this could be the way forward?

Thanks Snaggles - my hair is like yours and the ops by the sound of it so I have just order some of this Avon shampoo & conditioner that you recommend, don't forget to go through Quidco for 15% cashback and use the code "birthday" for free p&p and 10% off (they are on offer at the mo for 99p each so this makes is an incredible £1.78 for the two delivered!)

I am interested in trying the expensive range too but maybe next time!

thanks for all the suggestions :D

gosh what do i do?!? i have gone through so many shampoos/conditioners!!

do you think the problem could be the fact that i wash my hair at night then sleep on it before its totally dry? i have noticed my hair isnt that bad if i let it dry naturally in the morning but if i wash it at night when i wake up its :wall:

I have to wash my hair every mornnig, it is highlighted, fine and straight. I am currently using L'Oreal Elvive for coloured hair (the red bottles), my hairdresser recommended it to me.

I just comb my hair afterwards and it hangs straight and soft and shiny. I only dry it if I am going out early. If I wash it at night, it looks a mess after I have slept on it.

I am so jealous that all of you ladies have found your perfect shampoo!!!

(but of course very happy for you!)

so is there a way that I can wash my hair at night and in the morning it still looks good?

only because the only time i get to wash my hair in the morning is at the weekend...

if your hair is not like that naturally then you are probably expecting too much. A friend of mine at uni could wash her hair with shower gel and it would dry naturally perfectly straight - biatch

I find that if I use the same shampoo or conditioner for too long it seems to get less effective so I don't have a favourite. at the moment I am using Dove which seems to leave my hair quite silky. tried timotei, didn't like it.

herbal essences, nice smell but not so good at de-tangling thick hair

bright pink bottle out of boots (Mark Something?) Poker Straight range smells lush and seems pretty good but bit more expensive

I used to like Vosene before wella rebranded it. doesn't seem the same since.

I haven't bought any really expensive stuff (ie over £3 a bottle) before so can't comment on it :p

Rinsing afterwards with cold water is supposed to make hair shinier (I haven't tried it much as I think I'm allergic to cold showers :D)

I used to use V05 range, then went onto Herbal Essences but recently have been using L'oreal Elvive Nutri-gloss Light. For the first time ever my fringe doesn't stick up at all angles in the morning after washing it the night before :D It smells lovely and makes my hair feel real soft. Not too sure if its any shinier though

Does anyone know if theres much difference between the regular Nutri-gloss and Nutri-gloss light? I can get the regular one much cheaper but daren't swap incase my fringe goes bonkers again.

Not a fan of TIGI stuff, although they do smell lush!

My fav is Aussie moisturising shampoo followed by their 3 minute miracle conditioner, and it smells as good as TIGI and is a lot cheaper. I always stock up when they on 3for2.

I second the vote for Aussie - when I am too skint for Kerastase, the Aussie range is the one I go for. The 3-minute miracle stuff is really good, and you used to be able to get sachets of it for not very much money, so that would be a useful way to try it as a sample.

Pantene Ice Shine leaves my hair with maximum gloss and shine and feeling soft but I do tend to buy whats on special offer

Bought a bottle of Fudge once and the shampoo was horrible my hair clumped together when wet and had a nasty feel to it

TIGI pink shampoo (for blondes) makes my head itch like mad. It smells so strong (although nice!) and is S O pink that you know there are a lot of chemicals in it!
I like Redken for blondes and use it mostly. Other than that, I do try to buy shampoo with fewer nasties in them ( I know, I know, I shouldn't get my hair highlighted then!)

Dove shampoos & conditioners smell great too (as well as panten).

You may have noticed, I choose mine by smell.

I wash mine at night, go to bed with it damp & get up an extra half hour early (3 mornings per week) to GHD it to within a inch of its life.

Completely money saving and yet works a treat is the Lidl Corpal HairCare range. The best I have found ever for fine straight damaged and fly away hair. We use the Orange bottle Anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner. You can feel the difference as you wash your hair from dry (well sort of straw like) to smooth and easy to manage - love it.

Just in case this helps someone...

Been into TJ Hughes and they have loads of shampoos etc

Tigi products - they had control freak and curls rock shampoos. Huge 750ml bottles for a tenner. Also had serums, sprays, wax etc

Nicki Clarke for an amazing £1.50

KMS for a quid

and loads more!!

A bit late now for the OP but

Tigi - I love the smell of the honey and oatmeal one but its not that great in quality.

Aussie moisturising range - this I use all the time and its really good for my dry hair

John Frieda - got a load of this free in a boots order and I'm pleasantly surprised -makes my hair very soft. Ive had some overnight serum stuff too which is absolutely brilliant for damaged hair - expensive but worth every penny.

Lush - the shampoo bars are good and last for ages, the conditioners are quite good too but I wouldnt use them full time personally.

I love Aveda products. I use to use Paul Mitchell & Redken products years ago and found I had to often change between shampoo's as my hair started to look dull & lifeless. But since using Aveda I haven't had the need to change products & have been using it for 4 years now. It is expensive but I always get the salon size bottle & refill a smaller one. A salon size bottle lasts me over a year for my shoulder length hair. If you know anyone going to America then ask them to buy some Aveda over there as the amount we pay in £'s here is the amount you pay in $'s, so half price really. The Aveda stores always tend to have small samples you can try. I was recommended Pure Abundance for my fine hair, but I prefer Shampure.

Oh & Aveda products are based on plant extracts so natural ingredients.

hmmmmm i have always been thinking about kerastase but have just never known if they were worth the money!!

thanks for the tips

I'm quite particular about my hair and am having a nightmare trying to find a new shampoo, the one I used to use has been discontinued. I am writing a huge letter of complaint about this, both to voice my anger and in the hope of a free sample or five :)

Anyway, back to the point. I was asking about the Kerastase products when I noticed them appear in the salon I go to. The guy who cuts my hair said that they aren't suitable for me (as I am a guy and it is a product better suited to women), but he also said that they are amazing products and that they do the things they are supposed to.

He wasn't trying to sell me anything and I really trust his judgement (he wouldn't be allowed near my barnet otherwise!)

KMS definately :T My hairdresser has used this on my hair for years now, but I'd never bothered buying it as it was so expensive, but Home Bargains now sell it for 99p, there are different sorts available too, this together with the conditioner really suits my hair - thick and coloured and regularly straightened with GHD's.

I don't like shampoos, conditioners or shower gel to smell of food type things.

I like soapy smells.

I think thats why I like dove (the blue one) & that knights castle (that you can't really get anymore. I used to love the old blue nivea shower gel, but the smell has changed over the years.

I love sure crystal pink anti-persprant & avon skin so soft pink (soft & sensual) shower gel/body wash.

I change shampoos & conditioners a bit, but in the main I'm loyal to that sure pink & avon pink shower gel.

Feel really embarassed to be posting this...:D

But...my favourite shampoo is Head and Shoulders Shampoo and Conditioner 2 in 1...I have fairly thick brunette hair, and H&S never fails to leave my hair soft, glossy and bouncy (it has the added bonus of keeping dandruff at bay but I primarily buy it for the soft bouncy glossy effect :D)

I was given a stack of Mark Hill Gorgeous Brunette products for Christmas one year and the stuff was vile...I followed the instructions but even the shampoo on its own left my hair dull flat and clumpy, and quite frankly when I've already got a product that works for me, I don't see the point in coughing up £10/£15/£20+ for salon type stuff. But each to their own :)
