I've never had any breakdown cover & don't know which company would be best for me. I don't need homestart or a partner to be covered as well. Have been doing longer journeys with my kids lately and I really think I should get some cover. Are there any good offers at the moment? :-)

Check out Martins advice at
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadside-recovery
but in a nutshell, if you have clubcard points you can use RAC through tescos or AutoAid if not.

I highly recomend Autoaid, we have been with them for 2 years and have made 1 claim. My hubby and I were visiting family in Brighton and were only 10 miles into our return journey home (to glastonbury) when the clutch fluid line sprang a leak, we were loaded on the transporter and were taken home. I made a claim and received a cheque for the full amount 5 days later and the premium never went up. Excellent service.

i know that the big boys sometimes take longer to reach you , the smaller clubs use local garages situated where you break down ie green flag etc hence the recovery spec truck or lorry reaches you within 30 mins, up here in the sticks even the aa rac use small er garages so dont be worried if a non aa/rac logo truck pulls up make sure you ask the operator whos coming out to you, most will give you the drivers name etc. It can be quite scarry for women alone at night in a strange area.

Tesco Breakdown currently have 30% off their prices, I paid £55 today for the top cover.

I have moved this thread to the travel boards as you are probably more likely to get replies there.
Thanks

Another vote for Tesco clubcard to purchase RAC cover. Unbeatable value.

Totally agree.
Excellent value for money - see Martin's post.
Have been with them over 10 yrs now and never had a problem getting refunded. Covers husband and wife driving 2 cars with full recovery etc.
When we first joined due to age of cars we made a number of claims so well cover the cost of our membership. Don't make as many these days but as it is less than £40 for joint cover I still feel we are saving as a fraction of the cost of the larger players that we would be paying and still not claiming on, if that makes sense.
Save your tesco points for better value deals.
