Ive just passed my test and am looking for a little run around just to get me to work.

I havent got that much money, and insurance, tax , petrol all makes it even worse!

If anyone can recommend a decent (very) low cost car could you please let me know.

Thanks

i found these a bit on the high side when trying to insure as a young driver.

Thanks everyone for your help,

My budget for the car is £600.

I was wondering also about insurance should I go fully comp or third party fire and theft?

I only need to get to work and back (around 10 miles a day) and the odd trip to supermarket.

Im insured on OH car for big motorway trips etc so it really is just an old banger for me.

If your doing really low mileage it is worth looking into one of the pay as you drive insurance schemes. They aren't for everybody tho, if you mainly drive on motorways, at peak times, it would probably get expensive. Since retiring, my mum has cut her insurance to £8 per month. Age obviousley goes in her favour, but she does drive a car with a three litre engine.

if you have £600...look at cars around £300 and keep the rest for spares, chances are it will need a few bits n bobs to make right

Skoda Felicia, or if willing to go a bit older a Favorit is what the felicia is based on. I have a favorit I got for nothing the previous owner was going to scrap. Have bodge sorted the rust in the rear arches and drivers door and it doesn't look too bad. Also serviced myself oil change, tappet clearance, spark plugs etc etc. Had it for a year and it's never broken down. You will find they are also cheaper to insure than many other cars like VW etc.

Don't bother with fully comp unless you're happy to take the high excesses to reduce the cost or will actually be worthwhile claiming (with a sub £1k car it probably isn't unless it's a total loss). ALthough do check as Third Party Fire Theft can sometimes be cheaper than Thrd party only and you get more cover for less.

Thanks again for the help....

Im now looking at a Ford Fiesta/Ka or Corsa as the insurance is quite cheap for me.

Im going out looking with OH at weekend, I really need to get something before I go back to work in 3 weeks time.

Sorry but I really couldnt see myself in a Skoda, I just dont like them at all.

All the Pugs ive seen are totally chavved up ( so will have been revved to pieces!)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Ka, for a cheap around town car they are fantastic.

Skoda's are great cars. What's so bad about them? My guess is some badge snobbery is going on here :p :)

Compared with a fiesta, ka or corsa more room, more reliable, and most likely as cheap on insurance. Plus Skodas are cheap because of the ignorant badge snobs and therefore represent good value for money.

Someone is currently selling this for £500

Do you want something to get you from A to B or something to look cool in and "cruise" round your estate? :D
