Im a complete novice with my hair, 2 things i wanna know,

my parting has always been dead in the middle, someone tried to change it once, it just went back (they werent a professional or anything was just with some mousse i think) any ideas how i can make it into a side parting? or is it not possible
im getting my hair cut on friday and want a cut that will look nice with a sweeping fringe like eva longoria style http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/reehsetin/untitled2.jpg

secondly how can i get the look without the fringe really getting in my way?
any ideas :rolleyes::o:)

Okay as an ex-hairdresser I can tell you that your parting CAN be changed but you have to 're-train' it! Your hair has got used to being parted in the middle (for how may years?) and every time you wash it you have to put your parting in the new position from now on - best way to do this is to blow dry it in the 'new' place but if you don't use a hairdryer (like me) just comb into place to dry.
2nd - if you don't want your new sweeping fringe to get in the way, have it cut long enough to tuck behind your ear - your hairdresser should be able to advise on this. If you're happy to put on an alice band or similar when you want your hair out of the way it can be cut a bit shorter.

You can do what you want; just takes a little patience and time!

Hope that helps

thanks helps a lot, had a middle parting for ahem forever (21 years ish). i can blowdry my hair if i can be bothered guess i will have to be bothered for a little while, any idea how long it will take is it completely Dependant on my hair?

im not a fan of alice bands but like these hair bands, whatever they are calledhttp://mydrobe.com/myimages/clothes/82632-280.jpg
people tell me not to wear them though i think theyre nice personally

My hair has always parted naturally in the middle. I had it cut into a style with a side parting and a sweepy fringe-thing a couple of years ago. I part my hair when wet, blast it til its 80% dry using a nozzle on the hairdryer, then put big rollers in to give it some body and then use my straightners on the lengths and ends to smooth it out. It tends to keep pretty well.

It can be dependant on your hair, yes, sorry! Just persevere and you will get there, if you can be consistant it will come naturally eventually, you should see a change within 6 - 8 weeks though and well worth it believe me. Those hairbands will do the job you want too! Why do people tell you not to wear them? My daughter wears them all the time lol! but a regular alice band suits me better but then again I have had at least 12 inches cut off my hair in the last year! Am growing it back now though: yet again! (mental note: do not let people persuade me to have hair cut off again, extensions do not feel the same at all lol!). If you can't be bothered to blowdry just brush/comb your parting in while it's drying naturally and that will help too.

6-8 weeks isnt so bad think i can cope with that,
i dont know about the hair bands i think it looks really nice, then again it was probably the same evil people telling me not to cut my hair.http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/reehsetin/DSC02637.jpg

my hair goes really flat if i dont blowdry so probably will anyway especially if my hairs short!

As long as you're happy with your hair, thats the main thing. I had people telling me not to have my hair cut BUT it's my hair! and I am lucky in that I think I look ok with it long or short and do I really care what other people think? Err, no actually, as long as I like it thats the main thing. And as I always used to tell my clients: it grows back, you know!! LOL. My hair is flat too if I don't blow dry but as I'm growing it again, that's maybe best anyway! Please yourself not anyone else; I know what I want eventually, no matter what they say and I will get there, so there! As long as you can cope with it and know where you're going, no-one else matters anyway.

How did it go?

My hair needs a complete makeover, my hair is just brown, straight, parting in the middle, boring...

went really well, my hair dresser is fan-tas-tic!
she set my side parting and its stayed pretty well and she said instead of a hair band i could use a clip which i hadnt thought of at that works really well, most people love it and said it really suited me, except my manager says i look like a 4 year old and randomly laughed at me throughout the day, lol

its really short like a bob with layers, hate to say it but vicky beckham style, with a side parting :)
