Hello everyone, thought i would post on here as i cant wait to ask the dentist. I will have to have a partial denture and would like to know if you can have the metal one on the NHS. If not then how much would it cost for private. Thanks:confused:

You can have a metal one if it is the only possible solution to your dental problem.

In reality though, an argument can be made in practically every case that a plastic one will do.

How much it costs is down to the dentist you go to. If you like and trust your dentist for everything else, then I would go with the price he quotes you. I wouldn't swap dentists just for a cheaper price.

Thank you for replying,
My problem is that i used to wear a small denture with 1 tooth on and several years ago i got rid of it and had two bridges and crowns fitted. My front tooth is extremely loose , my dentist told me it was bone loss. Any way it has got so loose that i have made the appointment. I will only go to the dentist if i have to.sorry but that is the way it is for me.I have been told that the metal ones are a lot nicer and smaller as it hooks around your other teeth to wear and you dont feel that you have that thing in your mouth all the time.Thankyou

Problem of a metal one though is that it's not as easy to add to if other teeth come out (Which they inevitably will if you only go when there's a problem - especially if you have bone loss).

So if you go for a metal one, and one of the teeth it hooks round falls out, then it will be another few hundred quid for a new one as opposed to £20-£40 to get an extra tooth added.
