I have a terrible phobia of dentists. Sadly in the last 18 months I have had no end of trouble.

Heres the problem. I had a tooth root canalled then it crumbled so it was crowned. Since it was crown the molar behind it was given me pain, on and off for about 3 months. That tooth also broke at the same time as I had the root canal so the dentist managed to fix it. Anyway, it doesn't ache as such, but I cannot put any pressure on it as I get sharp pains. I can't bite down or eat on that side. I wake up in the middle of the night with the sharp pain when I've bitten down on my teeth. Any idea what the problem could be?

Any ideas? I am loathed to have a root canal again since the last one, I would rather have it pulled. I'm just so terrified of the dentist. I would rather be in pain than go. (Although this pain is nothing like the agony I had when I had an infection).

Thank you.

It's possible that the tooth could just be a bit high on the bite, and a simple adjustment could fix it.

You do need to get back to the dentist to let him check it out though, as things rarely just get better. (And if they ever do - then chances are that they will come roaring back 10 times worse at a later date!!!)

Oh Toothsmith I knew you would come to my rescue! I've been wondering if it is my bite because that is my 'biggest/tallest' tooth. I really hope you are right and that its not something major. I've talked myself into phoning for an appointment tomorrow.

Thanks as always!
