Hello! Have done a quick forum search and nothing popped up-ooer!:p I'm after a nice set of make up brushes and thought that as tis the sale season you might be able to direct me to a) cheap but good or b) not so cheap but long lasting. Not really a make up kinda gal but want to start trying to make an effort in 08 so any hints/tips appreciated. Thank you very kindly!

im with you on this one, must make more effort turned myself out as supertrogg for pretty much all of last year so must try harder in 08!
Be aware that the cheapest brushes are likely to be a false economy.
Tesco do half decent brushes, but if you are looking at something that will last then you need to go for Mac or Bobbi Brown.

Virgin Vie have a great offer on make up brushes. Powder brush, blusher brush, double ended eye shadow applicator and blender brush and a double ended brow and lash styler. All for £22.75. Saving £10.75
All brushes are made from horse hair. I have had mine for over 5 years and they are still like new. Just wash occasionally in mild shampoo and leave to dry.

I agree with eyeslipsface as above, I bought the set for £15 for my daughter, excellent quality would recommend.
Other brushes I have used for ages are from The Body Shop (brushes have won awards), again good quality.
Also from experience pricey isn't always the best, my sister bought an expensive Clinque blusher brush, and all the hair dropped out really quickly.

I also have some from superdrug and they weren't bad either

I bought a couple of the E.L.F brushes and the quality is really good. Only thing is they aren't long handled but I can live with that! The brushes, with the exception of a couple (think one was the foundation brush) are made from sable.

I find MAC brushes excellent to use and pretty long lasting however, like you said a little on the pricey side.

I have been using the same set of Body Shop brushes for nearly 13 years now and the quality is superb. Just wash every week in mild shampoo and put somewhere warm to dry ( not on a radiator). I fully expect them to last a few more years yet. They don't make the powder surfaces shiny either.

Costco were doing a fab set of brushes (about 9) with a silver bag to keep them in for about £12.00 just before Xmas. They are ace.

It's a good idea to look for brush sets as they work out much cheaper. The MAC counter at Stansted airport do a 5 brush set in a cosmetic pouch for £27.50. Includes a foundation brush, a powder/blush brush, a lip/concealer brush, an eyeshadow brush, and an eyeliner brush. All the brushes are good quality and the set is worth over £70 if bought individually.
I've also seen a Benefit brush set advertised. Also for about 20-something pounds, you get a fair few brushes and they are good quality.
For cheaper brushes, Ruby & Millie at Boots do good ones, and Body Shop as well.
