I need to know what is in the handbook/service book about the servicing intervals to keep the warranty valid http://www.hitched.co.uk/sbforum/images/smilies/icon_smile_help.gif

My car has just failed its MOT(first one).
The things would be covered by the warranty but the garage says the warranty needs revalidating.

The car was first registered 22nd December 04
It had been serviced when I bought it November 05 and was serviced in Feb this year.
The garage is saying that the car needs to be serviced to revalidate the warranty. I know that the work needed would cost more than the service but surely the Feb service would revalidate the warranty?

What mileages were the services done, and what mileage are you on now?

Sorry I don't know and the garage has the car and service book.
The Feb service was a big one.

The garage said the Feb service was 3 months late.
My The garage said the Feb service was 3 months late.
My point is how would a service 12 months late, in effect, validate a warranty when a service 3 months late didn't?

You WILL have failed to follow the required service schedule, by not getting it done at the specific mileage & or time period.

Not sure how much over run Fiat will allow, or how many times. Arte you in a Fiat dealer for the service/rectification work now?

If you are, you need to confirm that the service will be OK, for the repairs to be a warranty claim BEFORE they start doing it. If they can't promise this, you'd more than likley save a few £$£$ covering the costs yourself & finding an independent garage.

If it's an independent garage, they MIGHT be able to get a claim in to fiat, but wouldn't have thought it .

what ever happens get this all in writing as the 22nd is getting close, maybe they are just stalling for time as the warranty period is almost over.
get them to confirm the work is needing done now and not after the 22nd.
i know you need to service it to keep the warranty, but i do know that ford were fair when it came to my warranty,my car was never serviced by them but there was never any hassle as regards to warranty work.
sometimes the parts that are needing replaced are not servicable so they wont be checked during a service, can you tell us exactly what is wrong with the car?

Its a Stilo.

Its at a Fiat dealer.

They can do the work tomorrow and issue the MOT.

Something to do with the suspension?Oh and the radiators leaking which they will replace under warranty.
The service, covering the warranty work as well, will cost about £90.

Sounds like you've got a good dealer there - £90 doesn't buy very much in their workshops these days!
