Car is 02 plate with 45k miles, full history but only some is dealer.

A non service item failed which has wreaked the engine.

Anyone got any idea if there is a legal comeback against the manufacturer. I don't think Sale of Goods would apply as the car was bought privately when 18 months old.

Any tort experts out there?

None at all

Cars deteiroate with age and use

As you bought privately you have no claim

If it was a know fault the manufacturer may have made a contribution but the fact is non dealer service history means not a hope

How does that sit with block exemption then?

Google make and model, also check Telegraph 'Honest John'. If it's happened elsewhere you might get something or there may be a group action. Also if there's been a recall for this item and the owner didn't do it you may have recourse. Failing that, same as above!!!
