Key AD/FOB FOR A RENAULT LAGUNA help please

Hello

I have another problem. what gonna be next?? I cant lock my car as the key pad wont work. Its not the battery as my husband has tried that.

I have been quoted in excess of £100 from Renault, garage to get it programmed.

Any other options please as I have very little money now.

I would search for you but I'm getting an error on the page - I remember the Autocar/Top Gear Test Drive Mags (probably the top gear test drives one) mentioned problems with the key fob as something to look for when buying a used laguna - what year/model is it?

Hi crabman

Many thanks for your reply and the link. Its a 2001 Authenique model. I was hoping there might be some way to save money on this. But to be honest its getting a little worrying not having the locked when i go out!!

I'm sure someone else will be able to advise better regarding the actual fault and how to sort it out, but if I were you I'd approach the Renault dealer and mention that as there are widespread documented problems (mentioning Top Gear and Honest John) I'd want a free of charge remedy - that way you can hope to get some money off at the very least, depends how assertive you are with them.

When did you buy the car? Because if it was used and recent you could use the Sale of Goods Act too :think:

Crabman thanks you are very helpful. I bought in October 2005 and it has been relatively trouble-free until the last few months. Ive just spent approx 1100 on engine work and other repairs a few weeks ago though...

Your key is a credit card sized thing right? (ok, its thicker than a credit card)

He repaired mine for a £20 pound note. Posted to him on Tuesday received it back on Thursday. Very quick service.

Whatever you do, do not buy a second-hand key on ebay etc. Keys can only be programmed once. They cannot be reprogrammed to suit your car.

Regarding the £1,100 charges on engine work/other repairs, how long was it after you bought the car? As per Sale of Goods Act it should be 'fit for purpose' etc. (see article here (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchan#second))
