hi there

does anyine else suffer fron this

its so annoying

itching drives me mad

tried tablets and cream
\they come and go\\worse about 5pm every day and at night

i live and eat healthy food

had a stressfu time 3 mnths ago,my father passed away,i thnk this i the trigger

only now wish they would go away

on stomach and thighs and back,not massive but drive me mad

anyone got any tips to clear this please

Hi,

My Dr diagnosed this a week ago. It was really itchy with raised weals and like water marks on my skin.

My Dr has prescribed steroids and antihistamines to be taken at night and it seems to be doing the trick. They seemed to start working almost straight away and I was sick of smelling like a hairdressers with all that ammonia cream!! :0)

My Dr said that it is either something I've ingested or viral - I've had a cold for the past week too. I've also heard that it can be brought on with stress. My Dr advised me to keep a food diary too. Nobody seems to be able to put their finger on exactly what causes it. I have been under a lot of financial stress lately too.

Anyway I hope that this helps. I am still a bit itchy and when I get hot it feels like it is coming back, but fingers crossed the steroids will knock it on the head completely.

i had that. it was great fun. once i was on the bus and it was really full, but no one wanted to sit next to me coz i was all red and blotchy :cry:

Anyway, mine just went on its own after 6 months, so keep your toesies crossed.

I've had this in the past - the last time was for just over three years. It was hell!! It went after a bit of encouragement from steroid medication.

When the itching is too much have you tried placing a cold wet cloth onto the affected skin? Alright it's not going to be much fun in winter but I found it did help. I also found having a very cool shower gave some relief, then dress in v.loose fitting clothes.

I would tell you what combination of anti-histamine tablets I took, but that would be medical advice, so I won't. However I will say that it would be worth a chat to your doctor to find out if it's possible to take a combination of tablets which have different active ingredients.

Are you suffering with Jaundice if so the bilirubin in the bloodstream could cause uticaria. Have a good look at the whites of the eyes to check for jaundice. Good luck.

P.S. try camomile lotion. Just apply to skin as and when needed.

I suffer from solar urticaria and it's worse when the sun is very hot or I am abroad. I come up in the most awful itchy mess. My doctor gave me anithistamines that did nothing as I take them anyway for hayfever. He also gave me aqueous cream to use...in the shower instead of shower creams and to rub into skin after a shower. Not sure it helped much though but it goes after a few weeks of being out of the sun!

Hope you get it sorted out...it's really miserable! :(

Also carefully not giving medical advice, but if the itching makes it difficult to sleep, ask your GP and / or pharmacist about anti-histamines which can make you drowsy to take at night. We asked the other day if there was a cheaper generic equivalent to the one which begins with a P, and the pharmacist said that he wasn't aware of one, probably because the non-drowsy ones were so much more popular. However he said there WAS another which can cause drowsiness, available OTC, and it can be more effective than the P-one if sleeping is a problem.

Was wondering how you were getting on?

I finished my steroids last week and rash came back so had to go back on and Dr is referring me to hospital for assessment. It's driving me mad!! Been keeping a food diary, but to be honest I think it could be stress or something else viral.

If you hear of anything please do let me know. I don't think I could cope with having this for years and the steroids although they provide short term relief are not a long term solution due to dangers associated with taking them.

i to suffer from this, it comes and goes.

mostly its my arms and legs and the itching drives me bonkers. it can come onto my scalp and my hands swell uyp. its so bad i want to get a brick and rub it onto my skin, ive found that showering even when the waters low temperature it feels like its burning me.

ive had so many pills and potions and ive found that some work for a time and then it comes back. i do find it embarrassing as peo-pple look at me like ive some terrible disease im going to give them.

i also find that stress is a big factor in the outbreak of this as i have had one of the most terrible years of my life this year and ive had so many outbreaks of this i cant remember how many.

ps i havent got a single patch today fingers crossed LOL x

My (now) ex-husband developed urticaria through stress the first time he was unfaithful to me! He had several visits to GP, dermatologist, special diets tablets etc. none of which made any difference in all honesty. I'm going back 20 years though, they may have better treatments now.

Eventually it cleared up (when she ditched him). He deserved it, you definitely don't, you've got enough on your plate.

All I can say is, try to take good care of yourself, you won't get over losing your Dad in such a short time.
