Curling tongs with steam and heat protection spray?

I'm considering purchasing a cordless curling tong with steam (Braun do one). Thing is does the steam really make a difference? Apparently it's good for the hair but putting a bit of moisture in, plus they claim it helps keep the curl?

also can any recommend a good protection spray to use whilst curling (something to apply to dry hair).
