I had a molar root canalled in January. The filling cracked a couple of months later, then last month a chunk of tooth broke off. I saw the dentist who recommened a crown, I duly made the appointments. Thenb in the last week a whole massive chunk of the tooth has broken away. So I have half a molar left- the other side is broken to below the gum line.

Heres my question, is it still possible to have a crown or should I have it pulled? Can you get a singe false tooth?

Thank you for your help, I'm so petrified of dentists anyway. This is making me ill will fear :(

Bear in mind that what I know about dentistry you could write on a stamp - :o :p, if you choose to have the tooth pulled OH has a bridge where the teeth either side of the missing tooth are crowned and a false tooth is fixed between. It just looks like a row of normal teeth.

I'm wondering if I should just go for that option instead. Blimey I wonder how much that would set me back, seeing as one crown was going to cost £220 :(

It's normally possible to rebuild very badly broken down teeth so long as the roots are OK and infection free.

You'd need to speak to your dentist to find out exactly what is possible to do with your tooth as it stands now, but it's in no ones interest to try and crown a tooth that won't last.
