Hey! I just need a tadge of advice... Ive started 'properly' exercising 3 weeks ago, and i was wondering how long it should take to see results?
cheers!
viks xx
I started 3 weeks ago as well, and I can see the flab on my ribcage just starting to reduce. I've lost 4.5 inches off my waist, a couple off my hips and bust. What kind of exercise are you doing? I do a 3-mile brisk marching DVD or a Tom Holland circuit training DVD every day, and do weight-training every other day. I would say you want a two-pronged attack - something to burn fat, and something to build muscle especially if you're dieting as well.

what sort of "results" are you looking for? ie muscular or cardio?
Muscular will take a few months, also depending on your diet (basically feeding your muscles).
If it's cardio and if you're increasing your time each week (say running/cycling), then results are pretty quick.
I've just started running again and within 3 weeks I was running double the distance.
Are you trying to improve what you have or lose weight?

its sort of 'toning' in aiming for... I dont have any weight to loose, having lost 7 stone in the last year. im doing 30 mins on a treadmill, and twenty mins each on the rowing machine and cross trainer, and im doing it 4 times a week...

wow! 7st in the last year - well done you :T
Well if I were you, I'd work on the weights a bit more for toning. You're doing a lot of cardio which wont give you the results you're after. I used to go to a gym a lot but only used the running machine/stepper for warming up; rest of the time (about hour) was spent on weight machines. Much more effective way for toning.

Well done on the weightloss.
Rowing will certainly tone as will running. It depends how much you want to achieve. If you want to add muscle as opposed to just tone, you need to train with weights or do some other form of resistance training.
You would then train your body to handle heavier resistance than normal, hecne build muscle. Muscle building is a matter of diet as well though, without extra calories and protein, it's hard to add muscle.
So, it depends how much you want to achieve. If just a little, stick with what you are doing but add in some weight work. You should notice benefits after 30 days, especially if you are working quite heavy.

i know it sounds stupid, but i dont really want to achieve 'a lot'... that sounds really daft, but im happy with my body (ish!!!) its just that 7 stone in a year leaves quite a bit of 'wobble' behind if you know what i mean?

I understand what you mean. I'm quite a slight build and happy with what I've got but just a few weight resistence exercises will help just keep you toned without bulking you out. I would just use some gym machines and use weights you are comfortable with, this will help tone you.

Keep going with your exercise - I started going to spinning classes about 2 months ago and I'm just beginning to see my wobbly middle tighten up a bit now!

Hi Vik you know what I am going to say - YOGA! Preferably Bikram yoga. I do not know if you have a Bikram school near you.
also spin. I used to do spin 2 or 3 times a week, I like it because you see and feel the results really quickly.
If you google pranayama breathing that will show you a breathing exercise which in itself will help tighten up the middle.
I have had 3 kids, was size 16 once, now size 8 to 10 and I got to a stage where I had nearly got a 6 pack. Makes you sick LOL;)
Taken a break recently for 'medical reasons;)' but I am going back to the yoga ASAP.
