What's the lifespan of perfume and nail polish

Just have decided to treat myself..(Why not) to DKNY woman gift set, then I got two vouchers in boots and managed to get two no7 nail polishes for £1.25 each! Bargain..

Anyway, does anyone know what the longest time a perfume or nail ploish will last before it goes off.

if you read anywhere on the web, most companies give their products short shelf lives but I've got 2 nail varnishes at home (made by Max Factor) that are 7 years old. They were bought just before I got married because I was trying to match them to a lipstick. They are only used for my toe nails and not used much but they are in perfect to apply.

Also I have some perfumes that are quite a few years old (just takes me agest to get through them)! Again I know people say they go off but I keep mine in a cupboard and they still smell the same to me. Apparently they should be kept out of sunlight.
