Hi - hope someone's reading this!
When you get car tax, does it have to be an original insurance cert/cover note, or will a fax do?
I'm getting a new car and think I'm going to run into problems because of the Bank Holiday, and looking for a way round it!
Thanks in advance,
Mel.

They wont accept fax or photocopies, only original papers. Dont worry, if you get stopped just explain to the copper you are waiting for your insurance papers. You wont get fine, i've driven my own car for 2weeks without road tax as I was waiting for the insurance papers and I was not worry one bit. HTH

I agree. I think it says somewhere on tax renewal notices that documents must be originals.

Thanks, folks. The insurance company is sending the cover note to the dealer (the tax was included with the car price) so hopefully it'll get there for Tuesday - I'm driving to Scotland on Weds. and need to get some practice in as the new car's a lot bigger!
Ta muchly for the quick replies.

Don't drive the vehicle without a valid tax disc. You could be liable for an on-the-spot fine of £60 from the police for non-display of disc, and another fine from the DVLA for driving an unlicensed vehicle on the public road. There will be no consideration that you can prove you just purchased the vehicle.
The law states that all vehicles have to be either licensed or declared as SORN, unless in the motor trade.

as said orginals only they appear to be very strict on procedures. Not that it matters to those who flought the law all the time, they couldnt give a begger.
