View Full Version : Engine reving at 4000 rpm
Started DH's car up today and it's reving constantly at 4000 rpm. Any ideas as to why or what could be wrong?

accellerator stuck underneath floor mat?
throttle cable sticking/stretched?
idle valve requires a clean? type [model of car] high revving into google you should find something.

Throttle pedal release spring broken? (Would lead to pedal being down, lifting pedal would reduce revs.)
Probably it will be idle valve stuck open or throttle butterfly valve stuck in open.
both can be cleaned. but the first one could just be plain broke and you need a 'new' scrapyard one.

I know nothing at all about cars but I had this problem a few years back on a car and the garage said it was to do with the automatic choke. No idea if it was but this might help.

Pugs and Citroens are prone to stretchy throttle cables.
