Log Book Problem

HI,

Thanks to all who helped on the insurance question i had.

Now i forgot to mention something, I bought the car and am waiting for the guy to come back from holiday to get the log book. (it could be 3 weeks still though). Can any tell me can i get insured and taxed, mot'd without it so i can start driving or do i need this?

Phone the DVLA helpline or visit the website. There is details on there of how to apply for a new V5c. This can take a number of weeks to come in.
I am sorry I did not read your other thread so don't know the details but this is a bit of a guide.

If the car has some road tax on it, you can prebook an MOT test and arrange your insurance. You will be allowed to drive it to the MOT center as long as it is prebooked.

If there is no tax at all, there is very little you can do. Even when he gets back, the V5/V5c will be in his name and thus of little use to you as it will not match the name on the insurance, so I think you should apply now for a new V5c. Once you have this you can get a new tax disk.
As before, you can drive to have an MOT test done without tax as long as it is a prebooked test. So you can do this before the V5c comes to you.

If you have to apply for a new V5 it will cost you £19. If you get the V5 from the previous owner he should give you a small tear off green section called a V5C, you can then apply and there is no charge. At the moment it takes about 2 weeks to come back from the DVLA.

If the car is already taxed you can drive it. If it needs tax you need that green section or a new V5 application (£19) to apply for tax.

If its MOT'd you can tax it. If its not you can drive to a prebooked MOT test with no tax but it still needs to be insured.

You really need all the documentation from the previouis owner or it will push the costs up.
