A long rant sorry
I had a brilliant NHS dentist who I liked - he retired and his replacement changed to private only so I had no choice but to go private. At my checkup end July I needed a filling only to be told I couldn't get an appointment till November. So when I got home I phoned the dental practice in my town and got an appointment (private) with a new dentist there. At the inspection she said I needed a filling so I got an appointment for 3 weeks time but 2 days after this inspection I had very sore teeth from 4 of my front teeth. So another appointment. She said there was nothing wrong with my teeth and couldn't find anything to cause the pain. Eventually she said did I want a second oppinion. I said yes and she went off and got 1 of the other dentists. He took an exray and gave me an antibiotic for a gum infection. This didn't clear the pain so a week later I saw the 3rd dentist in that practice and he gave me another antibiotic. Returned to the first dentist for a filling and when she froze the front of my mouth suddenly no sore teeth. She tactfully called me a liar when I told her this and said I had face pain and I needed to see a specialist and to go to my doctor to be referred to one. Went to my doctor who said to try amitripoline (sp) and to come back in 2 weeks. In the meantime everytime I try to drink a cup of tea or something cold I just hit the roof with the pain from the tooth that had the filling. So now I have sore teeth still and am half asleep with the antidepressant. PS the filling cost me £113 which hurt too

Rant acknowedged!
Can you let us know where exactly did you have the filling?
Top, bottom, left, right....
Was the sore tooth in the same area before?

The filling was on the right on the bottom and the sore teeth I had before the filling are on the left at the bottom. Only have 9 teeth on the bottom no back teeth.

do you grind your teeth when asleep?

I had the same problem a few years ago, google it you will find an assortment of symptoms!

I did it so bad that I cracked a tooth, and knocked a bridge out.

I had a guard made at the dentist £35 and after a few weeks I stopped doing it, The pain in my teeth went, along with sore jaw/cheeks and headaches.
I did however do a lot of damage and I am saving for implants. I
ts that or false teeth( I'm only in my 40's!) at the front as my dentist doesn't want to make me a 5 tooth bridge!!

Is that 5 teeth that are missing, or 5 teeth including the supports?

If it's the former, I'd agree, but one of the longest lasting, statistically most successful bridges is a 6 unit bridge using the canines to replace all 4 missing incisors.

I'd also agree that tooth grinding can be a cause of facial pain that doesn't seem to fit into any other box.

I think you have solved it. A few weeks before the sore teeth started I broke my bottom plate(back teeth only) and I couldn't afford to replace it .Just dug out my old plate the one before the one I broke and they fit a treat so will give that a go and report back in a few days. Thanks to all for your help

3 missing and 1 at each end at the top left 1 to 5

I have a 10 tooth lower bridge from lower left 3 round to lower right 7. total of 5 supporting teeth along it. longest bridge my dentist has ever made!
