Bridge to be removed?

Hi, hope someone can help me with this? Going to the dentist on Thursday, expecting him to suggest my bridge to be removed,as there is decay at the end of the bridge which is making it loose. It has been mention about a plate, but this scared me big time then.But now i've come to realise it's gonna happen,has anyone been in my situation and can help me?
How long after your bridge is taken out before a plate is put in?my dentist is private so i'm expecting it to cost a fortune any ideas on price.

Sorry for so many question want to prepare myself for what's gonna happen.
