Just a quick question.

I have some serious complications with my pregnancy, and my husband has had to be checked for his blood group to help us have blood on standby for a potential premature baby later on next week.

The thing that is concerning us is that my husband has come up as a Rhesus negative, but talking to his parents tonight, they are both adament they are Rhesus Positive.

So we are now left with the worry that my husbands test results might be wrong.

Is it possible to have two Rhesus positive parents and end up a Rhesus negative child? As my husband appears to have ended up?

I have asked both inlaws to call their surgeries tomorrow to double check their blood groups, but wanted to check theoretically if this is indeed possible.

Thanks

Thank you, that site is incredibly helpful, and actually helped us answer another of our questions that had arisen today.

Many thanks

I am pretty sure both my Mum and Dad are positive, whereas I am negative.

yes it's the nature of recessive genes - each of his parents must have one Rh+ve gene and one Rh-ve gene (the positive gene being dominant therefore they are RH+ve) of which he inherited the Rh-ve from each. Had he inherited an Rh+ve from either parent then he'd have been positive too. Your child will have one Rh-ve gene from him and then an Rh gene from you.

Both my parents are Pos, as is my husband. I am O neg, but my son is O pos, so however the science works its definately possible.
