View Full Version : Where to stay in Isle of wight?

Hi Guys,

We are planning to visit and stay in Isle of Wight. It will be on school break 28/07/07 - 01/08/07. I know it could be busy. Where in IOW would you recommend for a family of 4 to stay where there are some activities for children to do (ages 9 & 8)? Where to look for cheaper family accomodation? Also we are driving from Yorkshire which one the most accessible ferry crossing?

My GF's family have a tendency to to go to Whitecliff Bay (near Sandown), it's a static caravan site, seems ok with night time entertainment and stuff (Not really my cup of tea, like to go abroad).

Ferries are from Southampton (Red Funnel) or Portsmouth (Wight Link). Coming from Yorkshire, Southampton is probably a bit nearer but only about 30 minutes.

Thanks davetrousers. I'll have a closer look and do some more research.

Hope some families who have visited the place could share their experience.

Also Wightlink runs Lymington to Yarmouth, but that isn't so accessible, though it's nice in the New Forest if you have the time. Time wise Sot'on and Pompey will be about the same... Pompey is further (if you come down the M3) but Sot'on has more (slow) driving in the city to get to the ferry.

What is your preferred route from the north? A34/M3 (or M25/M3) takes you direct to Soton, M25/A3 takes you straight to Pompey.

If it were me, I would chose Portsmouth, even if I didn't live next door to the ferry terminal :o

There is a new Travelodge opening on the Isle of Wight (Newport).

We have been to IOW quite a few times. My fav holiday camp was Nodes Point, we went with Park Resorts. They have very reasonable prices (check the special offers, which often include the ferry crossing. My mate just went for a four night stay for £129 all in.

Times are changing, are the good hotels still giving a good service.
Hoping to go for 3 days in June but where to stay, looking at Tripadvisor but anyone been there recently and wants to share their experiences.
Ideally a good hotel, within walking distance of shops, beach etc.
Any suggestions of Restaurants to eat at would also be appreciated.
