Thanks again for everyone for this. 7 Coldplay songs downloaded, another set of PINs on the way. Bit of a rubbish site choice wise, but I'm sure I can find another fivers worth on there!

I can't see how you can get in without giving your card details, but I can also understand why they want them.

I noted that when I was prompted for my Registration and Credit Card Details after sucessfully entering the two PIN numbers this "securepayment" page wasn't secure.
The padlock wasn't displayed in the status bar, and the page had a http:// address rather than a https://
I would NEVER enter any personal details, and specially not credit card details, on a page that is not secure.

I dont really want to put my mobile number in, is there a way around this?

I don't think there is any way around putting your mobile number in. They do this so people don't keep appying with ldiffering email accounts as it's harder to get lots of mobile numbers unlike email addresses... Although most people will have access to a few!!
As for the unsecure bit and the entering of credit card details.
I had the same problem. To get around it I went to www.wippit.co.uk and registered without the ds offer which invloves entering just your details (no credit card) - this then gives you your login (email address) and password (you selct it when you register). Once you've done this, log out and go to www.wippit.co.uk/ds and click new user and then click I have my pins (assuming you have already done the pin request process) and enter the numbers from the email and text. Then continue and you get to the page that asks for CC details. In the top right hand corner is a login box. login with username and password you created earlier and the £5 is added to your account without you having to enter your credit card. I've not tried to download anything yet so I don't know if you still have to enter CC details then but hopefully you won't have to or if you don't it should be secure...
Hope this helps, if it does - click thanks ;)

There is a way of not entering credit card details and is proven as it worked for me.
Check out the post by (simonkirkland) just bit above this post
LMAO
It really doesn't say a lot for wippit when it seems like half off us can't even be bothered to jump through all the hoops to get the free downloads.
and it seems their site is currently down too - not a particularly great advert for them
if anyone from wippit ever reads this - it says a lot when you can't even give your service away.
think i'll stick to allofmp3.com
but thanks to the OP

wippit have taken £1.01 out of my account for no reason after i had filled in cc details, have e-mailed asking what the hell is going on and they reply with a newsletter.they can stick their free £5 downloads (not a good selection to start off with) horse thieves the lot of them and i want my money back. if they do that to everyone then its fraud on a grand scale. avoid.
They did that to me yesterday, when I contacted them I got a reply from Refunds Dept saying this was a pre authorization check and the money would be returned within 48 hours

Same , ggrrr
Flyer - do they refund this 'pre authorization' check automatically, or only when you chase it up ?
Thanks
Not sure to be honest, I e mailed them, they e mailed back

oh well. At least I have tried their service. I don't think I will be using them in the future - not a very good site and not much choice either. Am hoping I am not going to get loads of junk SMS to my mobile!
Hi Everyone,
Maybe it's a case of getting there a bit late but the /ds link seems to take me straight into the main site with no choice but to subscribe monthly or yearly.
Did I miss the boat or am I just being dim?
Miss Moneypenny
16-05-2005, 9:53 PM
Sorry SPL but I think you missed the boat. I was sent a text about the middle of last week, saying that AOL had blocked my E-Mail pin and to use the SMS pin in both pin boxes before the offer ended on Friday(Last Week).
Hopefully there will be a similar offer along soon for you.

I just made up a username and password and got the fiver credit :)
Sorry hulltrucker - looks like KC still owe you something special!!
Hmm not sure whether i'm credited or not, it said I was, but I'm not certain, i'll post again if I did get it.

10-03-2006, 2:19 PM
You do get a fiver credit by registering on the Karoo link with any username and password, but it's only a fiver against your choice of album download, at a very extortionate £8.99 +20p credit card fee, so you're still paying over £4 to download an album of unknown quality. You can't use it to download seperate tracks so probably best avoided unless you want an old punk album, they've got a few of my old favourites there I noticed :)
