I have had a paper season ticket up until now but will be going onto an Oystercard when it expires in a couple of weeks.

I think I've got my head round it but one question remains and I can't find the answer anywhere on the TFL website.

The hypothetical situation is this. I have an Oystercard loaded with a Zones 1-2 monthly travelcard plus a few quid for prepay top-ups if I go outside Zone 2. I then make a tube journey from Elephant and Castle (Zone 1) to Turnham Green (Zone 3). Do I get charged: (a) the full Oyster single fare for a journey from Zone 1 to Zone 3 (which is £2 or £1.50 depending on the time of day), or (b) only the £1 it would cost me if I was making a single journey from Zone 2 to Zone 3?

If it's the former, the way to get round this would be to get off the train at Hammersmith (Zone 2) , touch out, (having so far been charged nothing as I'm within the scope of my season ticket) and then touch back in again to get a £1 fare into Zone 3. But it seems daft! Can somebody clarify?

Thanks :D

Hi

I can't give the definitive answer but I would say you should only pay the difference from zone 2 to 3 cos you have already paid for 1 to 2 in your season.
Dont bother getting off at Hammersmith to re-enter, waste of time.

zone 1 to 2 is £2 or £1.50 depending on time.
zone 2 to 3 or just 3 £1 all day.

so you should be charged max of £1 or maybe just the 50p difference. (comparing 1 to 2 to 1 to 3 zones)

Suggest check your ticket history on the machine at end of journey.
Otherwise give LU a bell 0207 222 1234 (24 hours)
