We are buying a car on Friday it looks as though we will be buying from a car dealer.
Does anybody have any tips on getting the best price and how to go about it. Also is there a rough % that the salesman has to play with when selling.
Any other tips would be great too.
Thanks
Lisa
Make sure you do not buy any add ons. Sort out your finances before you go especially GAP/ Insurance, do not buy this from the dealer as it is so expensive (look on the internet).
It is also a good idea not to be too enthusiastic, if you see a car you like tell them you will come back - they could lower the price.
Good luck.

Have a look at the Motoring A-Z in my signature (link here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=471031)) or look at "haggling heaven (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=175685)" :D

The main thing is to know which car you want and what is a fair price for it.I would rather buy a car i wanted and pay a bit more than buy a cheaper car in not as good condition,or without the spec. i wanted.
Discounts depend on how popular the model of car is that you want to buy,how long the dealer has had it in stock,if you have a p/ex that he wants, and many other things e.g how badly he needs a sale, any sale!!Good luck and never buy a car JUST because it seems like a bargain,i have bought cars when i have got hardly any discount but the car has sold itself on condition,i have walked away on principal when they would not move on price and found the car has been sold the same day!!
By the way my husband and i have owned well over 100 cars and still find buying a minefield:D .

Good grief, I can count on my fingers* the number of cars I've owned.
*I might be in Wiltshire but I only have the normal quota.

*I might be in Wiltshire but I only have the normal quota. The reason we have had so many is,we love cars and also our first one was bought so long ago that we had to hire a man with a red flag ,to walk in front of us, when we went for a drive:D
