Hiya I have imho the worlds best curling tongs.I have tried a few but I totally LOVE the babyliss curl & press ( normal size not the extra large ones). You can press the surls together which makes them last longer. My curls last for several days and it means I dont have to keep using them all the time. They are also available in boots ( where i got mine) so you can either buy them with points or get points to buy them. They are only £20 this is them here (http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1052334&classificationid=1026720) .I bought them when they were first released ,£29 at the time. so they have lasted me about 2 years now.The only bad thing is they do get very hot and dont have a heat indicator button ( i have to turn them off and back on again to cool down if I am doing my full head ) . So just watch you dont get burnt ! The other thing I would say it use a heat protect spray before you tong your hair- it makes it last longer- NOT hairspray as this frazzles the hair.I use either nicky clarkes or lee stafords heat protection sprays.I would also HGIHILY recommend tigi curls rock for your hair if it is the slightest bit naturally curly as this really gives great curls- I am addicted to it.If you have naturally curly hair you can use just this and twist your hair & diffuse for bouncy curls.
I do have naturally curly hair but this gves me nicer curls and people constantily comment on my hair.I dont always do my whole head just the front most of the time. Just to prove it ( because its you ) I am going to post a photo so you can see for yourself  ( eeek hate photos of me, be gentle im old  ) .http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/pepemia/DSC00038.jpg

i have shorter hair...so wanted loose curls not small tight ones...but i might try them...maybe if i buy them in argos i can try them and then return if i dont like....and if i do like i could buy from boots....dont really want to do a return in boots as i go there way too often!!

i was actually thinking of these....

Hiya, I bought two pairs of tongs a couple of years ago, a large barrelled pair, Boots own brand, which I use all the time and a smaller barrelled pair, Remington, which I don't use so much as I have BIG hair and it takes forever! I believe they're both ceramic ones, they have a little dial to control the temperature but I usually have them on high as although my hair's naturally curly it doesn't like looking nice for long!:rotfl: Plus one of them came with a heat bag thingy to put them in when you've finished to stop you burning the house down!

I think both pairs were under £30 each, if that helps at all. Another thing I will say is that if you can get a pair of new thin GHDs with the curved edges do that as my hairdresser used them on my hair a month or two ago to curl it and it looked fab! ;)

Oh your too kind , I hate get my photo taken my byfriend sneaked that photo of my on his camera phone when we were on holiday .I dint want ot post it on the boots board but !!
Ceramaic tongs are meant to be better for you but I havent used them myself.Personaly I think all heated products damage your hair- I remember when they said ghds didnt damage your hair. What a lie !( thought they are a great product ).I think you can minimise the damage by the right products but hair wasnt meant to be burnt ! lol . As you said if you get them somewhere and dont like them you could take them back- I wish I had thought of that I just gave two sets away that I bought from boots. If you get those ones- which lok nice let me know how you get on with them. My curls are quite big really -not small ringlets but I have loads of hair ( said I would get it cut when I got to 30 but I lied :p ) .
They also say that if your hair is a bit dirty your hair holds styles better- I know I cant put my hair up when I have just washed it as its too soft so maybe if its an option for you curls your hair the day after you wash it.I find this hard though as I like clean hair when I am going out somehwere nice. I would definately recommend tigi ranges of products for styiling curly hair but a cheaper boots one is the charles worthington- dont use toni & guy it just makes curls floppy- you dont want that !
MONKEYLADY I have seen the boots own make ones and they look good.I like to have a temperature control and it is my only gripe with the ones I have. However tongs that have a press function definately help hold the curls.

Yes spray your hair before curling it or in sections as you are going long ( this is what I do & the hairdresser does too).Something that holds as well as protects your hair is best and will make a BIG differance to your curls staying in.

Hi, I had my hair done at the hairdressers and came out looking amazing with a load of curls! My hair is usually very flat/straight, so came out feeling wonderfull. But then it all fell out after about an hour or two! I've since brought curlers to use at home, but they never stay in. I've given up! My hair just doesn't want to be curly or even wavy!

Flippin heck i agree with u!!!!! i bought curlers, tried them and hair looks fab for about 10 mins then slowly loosens....i step outside and its back to a mix of not straight and not curly hair!! gggggrrrrrr
i really wish i could just wash n go...let my hair dry naturally and not look like a freak. i dont want to have to use heat on my hair so i think finally i am going to give the heat a rest and just tie my hair up had enough of beauty!

Oh Iambroke Im half tempted to jump in my car, drive down and do your hair for you !!!! Dont give up- roman wasnt built in a day.It takes ages to find a look that suits you and products that blinking well work. Hey and once you do you can set up your own web site and charge people for your inside knowledge lol .
The one thing I would always say is to go with your" natural look " in a way. Is your hair poker straight ? or does it have a wavy ? I had thought it was curly becuase you had mentioned oils for your hair a while back ? or maybe im getting mixed up.
I also want to say you have put me in mind for getting new tongs as mine have got a bit scruffy with all the spray i put on them at first ( uhmmn used to use hairspray until I realised it scorched my hair- whoops ! ) .
I would say to both of you to NOT style your hair when it is just washed- even my hair can go lanky if its just condtionened.
If its any consolation whenever I get my hair straightened I sit in the hairdresser for 3 hours while they straighten my hair ( getting sore arms ) and then I go outside and the slightest bit of humidty and it goes frizzy ( why does it always rain when I come out the hairdressers ?).Plus I have just paid £40 for the privellege
 <-me when the frizz sets in.

Cat........i wish u lived near me then u could teach me!!!! sometimes i think i make my hair out to be worse than it is, but I do use my ghd's way too much!
nope my hair isnt curly.....its not poker straight either. It is straight but kinky/wavy but very frizzy. whenever i use a serum even if it is a teensy bit my hair feels really heavy and just looks greasy. i blame my african mum, indian dad it has given me confused hair!
i always wash my hair at night...around 6.30pm, let it dry naturally then go to bed. i think this kinda makes my hair look worse, but i just dont have the time to do a wash, blow dry in the morning. when i wake up my hair is frizzy so sometimes i give up and just tie it up but that does make me feel ugly as i know it is still frizzy. it does look good straight and i feel more confident with nice hair but whenever i put my straightners on i just feel as if my hair is turning into straw....what to do what to do...then i feel guilty when i curling tong practise as for a practise i know i am doing my hair no good whatsoever and then when the curls just look like a ball of fuzz on my head i loose the patience to try..i hate hair sometimes!!!

Oh poor you !!! Frizz is a total bummer- bane of my life too . I agree that washing your hair at night is a huge no-no. If I wash my hair at night it always looks a mess and I have to re-do it the next day.I only wash my hair twice a week -one to keep the natural oils in it- and too because im lazy ! I always wash it on a saturday morning and then get up earlier say on a wednesday to wash it again. I know its hard to get up earlier but as you said its not doing your hair any favour washing it at night and simply by washing it in the morning it might make a huge differance. Is your hair long ? I find hair has a certain length it sits best at- mine suits being longer as it wieghs it down ( i look a horrendous fizzball with short hair )so maybe your hair might work a bit better either being longer or shorter ? What about the straightening kits that they tested on the beauty board a few people had great results with these ? Im sure you do have beautiful hair- its just bringing out its full potential by how you manage it .It might need more maintance but if your hair frames your face and we can all agree if its not sitting right it can really affect they way we feel. BIG HUGS X
