I wanna get false nails but which type?

I am confused by the different type of false nails that you can have attached and would value some advice.

I bite my nails and ideally would like to have nails put on that do not damage my own nails but allow my own nails to grow underneath, so that one day I can take the false ones off and have the real thing. Do these exist? By then perhaps I will have lost the habit of biting them. I have tried and can't get on with the sort you stick on at home. I think having nice nails would boost my confidence and to me that would be worth the money.

With false nails, they file your nails to make them thinner before sticking the nails on. So when you take them off, the tops will be very thin and will break easily. Also, you'll end up with a ridge across your nail where the new nail has grown and is thicker.

I wear acrylics the whole time (for about 6 years) as my natural nails have always been pants.

I had them taken off over Christmas as was going away and wouldn’t be able to get the infills done and my nails underneath were rubbish. Soft and filed away and split at the slightest knock. After about three months gave up and had them put back on again,

Mush as I love my nails I would advise it unless you want to be stuck with them for ever. And stuck with the expense forever!! Acrylics honestly to ruin your natural nails.

Try some really good nail hardners, and nail oil and focus on growing your natural nails.

I prefer the ones where they actually stick the tip of a nail over your own. I cant get on with the ones where they layer like a gel that sets hard to form the nail, i find these to brittle and chunky on the ends!

I had acrylic nails for my wedding and for a while after - they cost a fortune to keep looking nice and when I had them removed (because of the continuing cost) my nails were HIDEOUS!!! Also, don't go there if you've got contact lenses, as it's really hard to get lenses out with artificial nails!

Another thing; if you have them done go somewhere where they file your nails by hand not using an electric drill thing (normally the chinese nail bars).

(and btw i can do pretty long acrylics and contacts no problem...)

I've had the paint on the end ones before when I had broken lots of nails at work and had a special 'do' to go to- the shield goes over the tip of your finger and you paint the stuff on- it looked quite natural, and grew along with my own nails- I recommended a nail biter at work do this- she did it in conjunciton with the stop n gro stuffy- and within just a couple of weeks her own nails had started to look 'normal'

A few years on she still doesn't bite her nails- it's a bad habit you are in, but can get out of with a bit of thought, and also seeing how pretty your hands are with real nails.

I personally don't like the look of falsies- even when short - when you buy the kit for your nails buy a buffer for your own nails- this gets rid of ridges and you can buff them to a shine as often as you like- it gives a clear nail varnish effect but no chemicals on your nails.
