Hello,
My parents have just traded in their car for a newer one (second hand).
The picked up the new car last Friday, don't know what they paid, but the salesman said the car was taxed until Feb 08, saving them around £100.
For whatever reason, they didn't actually check the tax disc - I suppose it's hardly a feature 'ooh look at that' but anyway here we are 6 days later they've realised the tax disc expired last year.
My mum wants to know how they stand on this - stepdad has been on the phone to the dealership and thinks he's been fobbed off - firstly the salesman apparently trying to contact the customer who sold them the car, and now saying 'you'd better tax it then hadn't you' as my mum is driving this around without tax...
What can they do? Would they be within their rights to return the car and request a refund - although a small amount overall I think it's basically p***ed my stepdad off to that extent...
I suggested that if my parents tax the car they can invoice the dealership and if they don't pay up threaten small claims court - but I said this with caution as I don't know?!
Any help is appreciated on this... thanks :)
