I've been getting a pain in the shoulder blade.

It started 6 - 12 months ago & I've been hoping it will go away, but its getting worse & more frequent.

When I first started getting it, it was perhaps once a week carrying shopping bags:D , but now its happening almost daily. It has been very gradual.

Its in the back of the (left) shoulder blade, it kinda burns. I can't carry anything when its paining, even something light. Sometimes its just the shoulder blade & sometimes it more acute & the pain travels further, like now:( , its in my neck (also left side) & even a little down my (left) arm.

Yesterday it was really bad, but this morning it was gone. Then I went aerobics & aqua-aerobics & I felt a niggle and then as the day wore on it got worse & worse and now its as bad as yesterday.

Usually its a burning feeling, sometimes it feels tight & knotted too.

Any ideas what it is???
Only started the exercise a few months ago, this should pain has been going on much longer.
I did fall off a ladder last summer & twist my knee & was on crutches, but I don't remember it affecting my shoulder.

hi there

this sounds like the starting of frozen shoulder, get your gp to check it out.

dont bother with all the rub in pain creams, i always use a warm wheat bag or hot water bottle at night and try your best to keep it mobile.

hope it feels better soon

Thank you, I'm going to see the doctor in the morning.

I did (try) & look it up on the net, & I did see frozen shoulder, but I didn't think it could be that as its a burning hot pain:doh: . Thats also the reason why I don't take DH advice to use hot water bottles:doh: .

Its been so gradual, its taken nearly a year to start to become a problem.
But this past week its been nearly daily.

Thank you for your answer, I will update as to what Doctor says.

Went to see the doctor about it this morning & she tested my range of movements & said its not frozen shoulder as I can move well.
She thinks the pain is actually a neck problem. My neck has started clicking a lot lately. I can't even carry my handbag now. She thinks my bad posture is causing the problem, I tried to explain to her that I didn't have bad posture BEFORE the shoulder/neck problem. Its the pain on one side of my neck that causes me to tilt my head slightly forward & to the right:mad: .

She has given me a leaflet about posture & the neck, so I will try it.

I've been parking really badly the past month (I thought it was getting used to the new (new to me) car), but I realised today its because I'm not able to look out the back window without pain so I'm using the mirrors (& I don't normally reverse into my drive like that), but today I used the back window & it was really painfull.

Hopefully the tips on the leaflet will help, but I'm not very confident.

with problems like this if they're not treated then they will migrate to the rest of your back etc... If you can afford it then go and see a chiropractor - will be about £45 for the first session then anything up to £35 for each appointment after that but you should see an improvement with the first session and with what you've described would probably only need 3-4 sessions with then maybe another couple in the next 6 months just to stop it coming back...

You could try and get a referral to a physio through your GP but it's likely to take 3 months and if your GP won't take it seriously and didn't offer anti-inflams or anything then it's unlikely that they'll agree to refer you.

There are exercise that can help ease it but we're not allowed to give medical advice... I think you need treatment at the moment anyway and a chiro would give you the exercises to help stop it recurring...

Maybe a trip to an orthopaedic surgeon to examin you and take x-rays is called for as you say its been getting gradually worse over 6/12 month.I have amongst other things "cervical spondylosis" which they diagnosed after x-rays etc and sometimes its really painfull to neck, shoulders, can be down your arms and also very tired legs.
