Help my snoring son find a wife!!!!!!

Actually, he has a lovely girlfriend, and they are planning on getting married. BUT !!!!. his snoring is driving her potty. She ( jokingly, I hope ) is threatening not to marry him until he stops snoring. He's not particularly overweight, doesn't smoke and he snores even when he hasn't had any alcohol. He even snored as a child. Anyone got any tried & tested remedies?

Have you been watching the series 'Sleep Clinic' on BBC1? The edition shown last night is repeated on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC2..........if you missed it.;)

The patients have a range of sleep disorders. They are referred by their GP to the sleep clinic at Papworth Hospital. Severe snorers benefit from wearing a mask in bed which forces air into their nose and prevents them from snoring and also stops sleep apnoea.

The boyfriend should really see his GP.

In my experience, sleeping on your back is the problem.

Solve that and you solve the problem!!

Some people sew sharp(ish) items into the back of pyjamas to make them roll over if they do go onto their back!!

I sympathise with your future daughter in law...

have a look on here http://www.britishsnoring.co.uk/ and get him to do the why do the what do I do to stop tests - there are different ways of addressing it depending if he's a nose snorer or a mouth breather etc. I found that my OH snored less with some of the sprays for a while but then it seemed to stop working though so not everything works.

My son snored, once he got his tonsils & adenoids out the snoring stopped.

My OH is also a terrible snorer but after being diagnosed with sleep apnoea he got his lovely CPAP machine & mask and now he no longer snores (or falls asleep during the day).

my partner snores,I turn him over and make him lie on his side, this works really well and if it doesn't I kick him out the bed, that's one cure ;)

Some dentists make anti-snore appliances that can work very well in the right patient. Worth asking his dentist next time he goes.

It is important to be checked out for sleep apnoea.

This is a potentially very serious condition.

My DH has snored for the (nearly) 15 years we have been together, I don't notice it now:j .

If hes snoring when I come to bed, I turn him over & he stops long enough for me to get to sleep:beer: .

Its more like a tingle ...I have it on max so its quite a tingle but it really does work. give Ebay a look..they are on there sometimes - ;) zzzzzzzzzzzzz

MY OH has that mask - he snored very loudly for 24 years.

Thanks everyone, will pass the info on to my son. I tried the tennis ball on the back of his PJ's when he was a nipper, didn't work, he just took the jacket off. I'm just thankful he doesn't live with me anymore.

I sympathise. My OH snores quite a bit and most of the time I don't notice it but when I do I start with a light kick, then a harder kick, then a slap, then a punch, and ending up with a sharp elbow to whatever part of his body is closest (he doesn't only snore on his back but also side, stomach etc etc). If it doesnt stop I usually finish with "will you shut the f**k up snoring" and that wakes him long enough for me to get back to sleep!

Seriously though, if it is a persistent problem I would advise him to see his GP to see what the solutions are.

My man snores very loudly and I use ear plugs - a useful temporary solution while he gets a GP referral to the sleep clinic... it always amazes me that the snorer doesn't keep themselves awake with their snoring.

This is so not a funny subject but you just made me chuckle...nice to know I'm not alone in just shouting at the OH to quit the racket! :rotfl:

He does use snoreeze which does help (have to buy it 3 for 2 in boots as it's quite pricey) but if he's been down the pub then it has little effect.
