hi, i live in england and i am about 10 mins drive away from the welsh border.
is there anyway i can get free prescriptions?
thanks

Probably not. The best thing to do is get a pre-payment certificate as it will probably work out cheaper. have alook at the NHS website.

Thankfully, NO.
The Welsh Assembly doesn't get any funding for you, so why should they pay for your prescriptions?

I have moved this over to health & beauty moneysaving
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1009335#post1009335)) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com (abuse@moneysavingexpert.com).

No you have to pay for your own from your net pay.
You also have to pay for the Welsh to have them free from your gross pay (in your deductions).
Its really nice of us to finance free perscriptions for them though isn't it:rolleyes:

You have to live in Wales and be registered with a Welsh GP.

I live in North Wales & this is the first I've heard about this. If I'm honest I'm not sure that 'we' get free prescriptions??
I thought they'd just been reduced to £3.50? Maybe I'm mistaken?!
If you are in receipt of tax credits then as far as I'm aware you should get free prescriptions??

As of yesterday you do.
This has been all over the news!

Which then begs the question :
"Who's going to pay for all of these 'free' prescriptions?"

Short answer - the Welsh Assembly which decides how it wants to spend the money voted to it by Westminster.
By spending money on this, they aren't spending money on something else, so the Welsh will be doing without something available in England in order to have this.
