In the post today I recieved a Notice of intended prosecution, for speeding.
36 mph in a 30 zone, it was an industrial estate (no houses & not much other traffic either) on a Saturday afternoon:mad: .
I really don't speed & I do know the camera is there, so I'm wondering could it be faulty (the camera)?
Am I likely to get points?
My husband said they send you to speeding classes now sometimes:confused: , yeah me (nearly 40 housewife with an old lady car!!!) & all the boy racers. Does anyone know about these?
Whats the fine, does anyone know?
I've never had a motoring offence/ticket before, but I thought they just sent you fines, this "Notice of intended prosecution" sounds so serious, do I need to worry, is it very serious?
I really do not speed, people actually joke about how slow I am!!!!!

Only a certain amount of forces operate these speeding classes.
A friend of mine went on one a few years ago, with Northamptonshire, and he still had to pay the fine, but didn't get any points.
Just out of curiosity.......
Where did you get nicked?
Ken.

S84 RTRA 84 (Road Traffic Acr - speeding offence)
sch 2 RTOA 88 (Road Traffic Offender Act (I think) dealing with fines IIRC you could google)
Fill in the form, send it back. They'll will then endorse your license and charge you £60. Don't forget to tell your insurer.

I did think that. I don't doubt that it was me. But I really doubt I was speeding, people really do joke about me being slow, I'm always being overtaken!!! What I'm wondering is could the camera have been fauly?
I know its there, so I always srop down to 25 to pass it (just to be on the safe side) & I don't speed anyway - this is my first speed ticket EVER.

Yes. Ask for the photographic evidence.

PLEASE don't do this - it's really dangerous.
Just travel at the right speed limit!
If everyone behind you is doing 30 and you drop to 25 you'll cause an accident!
Easy way to check if the camera is faulty: Drive past it at 36mph. If you get another ticket saying 36mph on it, then it was fine all along.

Some forces operate the speed classes whereby you pay the fine but don't get the points if you attend the course. But i think this only applies to your first speeding conviction. I think if you get knabbed a second time there is no alternative to the points and fine, as they say that you should have learned from the first time:rolleyes:

Even better, drive through it again at 35mph but IN REVERSE. That way you at least get your money back.

If you think the camera is faulty ask for the photos - you should get 2 and you can count the number of white lines you have travelled from the first photo to the second photo to work out the speed - ask them for the calculation sheet.
This would be the evidence they need produce to the magistrates court if you were disputing it.

I've since sold the car in question (sold at the weekend) & it was a bit of a banger. Now that camera is just off the roundabout (coming from the Balcombe Road dirrection) & I really doubt my old car could have got to 36 mph in such a short distance, LOL.
But I've known that camera was there since they fitted it (I think several months ago), so no way would I speed past it.
I wonder if that camera got a lot of people that day, people who weren't speeding:mad: .
In relation to that bit a few posts above, it is my first speeding ticket EVER.
Thanks

Why is that a 30 mph anyway:confused:
No schools, no houses, just an industrial/trading estate.
At the weekend its dead there, I really don't see the need for 30 mph:confused:
That road is 4 lanes across at that point???? I think.

i havent a clue, the roads in crawley are a nightmare, plus too many roundabouts!
one point to make is the speed your speedo says donesnt mean its the one you are doing, my pickup truck and all my previous motorbikes had points where the speed would match but were also often wrong, according to the satnav my 70mph is actually only 62mph, it really depends on the tech inside your speedo.

that is deliberate on the manufacturer's part. they can go up to 10% deviance from what the speedo says, but it must be below and not above that.
So when the speedo reads 70, you could be doing anywhere between 63 and 70mph, but you can't be doing 77mph.
It's been going on for years, but litigation threats these days mean that manufacturers are more cautious. They don't wanna be sued because you were going faster than you thought you were.
And to those that think they are doing 50mph on the motorway (why they do that I don't know  ) you're actually doing around 45mph
