Advice on Bargaining With Used Car Dealers?

Will be looking to try and get a new Ford Focus 06 plate 1.6 LX hopefully this weekend. Most dealers online are listing at between £7500-£8000. Can anyone suggest the best methods to try and get them to reduce their prices slightly.

I'll be paying cash and dont really want to go above £7200 if at all possible. What are the best things to say?? Any obvious tips that will work??

It's a popular car, so unfortunately the dealer will know they can shift easily enough.

I'd keep quiet about what your limit is to start with, just say it's out of your price range and ask them just how low they can go. They might even undercut what you were thinking (although unlikely on that particualr model for the reasons above)!

As albertross says, always be prepared to walk away. It's quite easy to fall in love with the car, or even the idea of a new car, so taking someone with you to act as the voice of reason is a good idea. They don't even need to be knowledgeable, just objective. As long as they know that you will walk if you don't get the right deal you have a strong bargaining position. It's not you that needs to make the sale.

dont expect more than a couple of hundered off the price, but often they will include free matts, cd player,mudflaps, free service or mot and such like to seal the deal

i wouldnt mess around with them, come out with it and say the dealer down the road has the same model and offered it to you for £7200 , you prefer the colour they have in stock ,whats the best they can offer you on it..cash wont get you any favours as they love to stitch you up on a awfull finance scheme that pays them huge comission

dont fall for any paint protection /sealer offers, theyre a rip off
