DON'T buy a monthly ticket!!!

From now (actually from Tuesday, but I didn't have time to post) DON'T buy a monthly ticket for your travel to work, or anywhere else for that matter, which starts before 1st March.

If you DO buy a monthly ticket you will pay for a monthly ticket, but you will get only 4 weeks' worth of travel (because Feb is such a short month). 4 weekly tickets are normally cheaper than a monthly........:rolleyes:

For me it'd be

4 x £21.50 = £86 or a monthly at £80 (although I'm on an annual at £840, i.e., £70/month)... so yeah, definitely consider if it's cheaper to get a monthly or not in February but it's not a foregone conclusion either way.

For me it would be £27.40 per week x 4 = £109.60 as opposed to a monthly starting on 4 Feb to 3 March at £105.30. In my case, buying a monthly would be a good idea. Now I just to figure out if I really need to buy an Oyster covering zones 1-3 or go back to zones 1-2 and top up for those occasional journeys past Clapham South via rail or tube.

Well well, I've learnt something new - thank you all. I'm still keen that people do the maths, though (it is definitely more expensive for me, and several other theoretical journeys I have checked, if I buy a monthly ;))

Monthly tickets will always be cheaper, not a great deal but still cheaper, unless you always go out of your zone. Friend at TFL states that yes whilst you might lose a day in February you will gain it in all the months that have 31 days. :rolleyes:

Monthly works out cheaper for me in many ways, I buy a zone 1& 2 travel card, however with my card, I can go up to zone 6 on the bus...:D

At worst a monthly ticket is going to be the same cost as four weekly tickets. Train companies (at least the ones I use and have used to commute to London) aren't that stupid. I'd be interested to know exactly which tickets do cost more to buy on a monthly basis rather than weekly.

Also buying a monthly ticket saves you from having to waste time renewing every week.
