www.dvla-som.co.uk is the best place imo.

some of them are £250 on there which insludes the £80 transfer fee, most places start at £250 PLUS the transfer fee.

dvla only deal in new plates though i think, rather than plates other people are selling.

Got both of ours from www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en the fee for them includes VAT and the £80 assignment fee. This is the cheapest place to but it from and the easiest to deal with if you buy from new reg the assignment fee is on top of the price of the registration number. Numbers can be expensive, both of ours cost £1000 but I love them :D

it will only fail if the plates are illegal, not jsut because its private.

if you miss space letters to try and make it read something they will fall foul of the law becuase of the way speed cameras and petrol station forecourt cameras record number plates.

We got ours from the DVLA auctions.

When we went to the auction one of the plates went for £25,000, so your were quite reasonable at £1000 Allycat :D

Only use the DVLA!
All the other sites don't hold the plates. As soon as someone buys a plate from them, they just buy it from the DVLA and pass it onto you and charge you for the privilage.

I have two number plates that have been in the family since 1958 and my brother and I need to sell them. They are ET 1234 and 1234 ET - any ideas on how to find out how much they are worth and where to sell them?

I'll move this thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1009335#post1009335)) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I just changed my name to the plate I had on my car - M456 RGH, simple!

elite registrations are more reasonably priced than the larger operators like regtransfers.

For buying, I would try DVLA first for first issue plates and then other websites for private sales.

Sitting here trying to work one out for you, LOL!

VD04 NKS is £399 from the DVLA if you can see what I'm getting at with that. Bit spurious as the 04 is supposed to be the DA so you could use his initials instead at the beginning?
