View Full Version : Gillette Mach3 Turbo razor blades.

I have used Mach 3 blades for many years since they were first introduced. Originally I found each blade was lasting for up tp 6 weeks before change necessary merely due to not shaving close enough. Note this is long after the rubbing strip colour has changed from blue to white.

Now I am finding that the rubbing strip colour is partially gone after using just ONCE! And the blade needs changing within a week to ten days.

Is this just Gillette reducing quality as a new product is about to be launched? Or are there counterfeit blades around - I do sometimes buy from markets?

Anyone else any similar experiences?

Razor blades are a bit of a rip off like inkjet printer cartridges. It would not surprise me if counterfeiters were jumping in to further exploit the consumer and original manufacturer to boot.

Its funny you say this,on tuesday my other half was moaning about these blades not lasting as long as they used to (all purchashed at tescos).
Anyway in my usual complaining way I have fished his old pack of four out of the bin and sent a letter of complaint to gillette.
Will update you when I have had a reply.

@Cathy

The blades in question have guides at the side which prevent the blades from contacting a rigid surface longer than the blades lenght.

Of topic ,your picture is bugging me as it is taking an age to load each time. I'll look at my webcache but in my ignorance, it might non cachable or too high a resolution somewhere in the chain of things.
I only have dialup so total bytes to download are a minior gripe on this excellent site that is the stronger for your perceptive contributions.

@Trafalgar
Your flag is instant.
I guess Cathy selected 'Warts and all' plus 'Desperate Dan feature eliminator' in some menu. Even Danny's Einstein mug loads a few seconds faster. I suspect the picture has to come from a slow third party site.

I had this problem on dial up too and was given this advice, hope it helps

If using Internet Explorer click tools, internet options, advanced, scroll down to multimedia and uncheck Show Pictures.

You can then choose to view each picture on a case-by-case basis.

Most avatars are stored in you cache however so you shouldn't need to redownload them.

Good news on the complaining to gillette.
Received £6 of vouchers from them.
Not a bad return as they were, sorry had been thrown in the bin.

In reply to that tip to try blademail - great tip Cathy! :)

RRP of an 8 pack is £11.79, blademail price is £7.99

...and if you select a repeating order (say, every 12 weeks) the delivery is free.

Just ordered mine!

...just realised that I forgot to specify the free gift, though - d'oh!

Just looked on Blademail, and the Gillette Mach3 Turbo are £9.96, looked online at boots and they are 20p cheaper. I'm I missing something here?

Aldi and Lidl both do good razors (proper, manly, 'shaving system' type razors rather than disposible that is).

My OH got his Mach 3 stolen on holiday in portugal and bought a replacement from Lidl which he has been very pleased with.

I use an Aldi 'Edge 3' for my legs - the replacement blades are 1.49 for 4 and seem to last a good few goes. Certainly way cheaper than the special gillette girly razors and just as good.

In France the Goverment have told Gillette to reduce the prices by 30% as they are over charging. Why don't our Goverment do the same on regular essential items.

Simple answer Rip off Britain. It is said two thirds of the population in the UK are going to be over 50 by the next election so its time the public showed they are tired of be dictated to and being forced to pay such high prices.

Nhs computer costed at 6 billion, now its been agreed the cost will be 30 billion, stuff the pensioners ?

Sorry for ranting, only came in for a shave ???

One thing I'm amazed no-one has mentioned yet - Mach3 Turbo blades and Mach 3 blades are the same thing - different colours, and the "turb" ones cost more, but the battery in the handle has nothing to do with the blades.

The same is true of thier 5-blade razor (Although they've started admitting it it is in the small print)

I use the Gillette Sensor 3 (blades) with Optimal shave indicator strip (what a mouthful): give an excellent clean shave (barely any nicks) but bloody expensive at £8.79 for an 8 pack  However, i use each razor four times (four separate shaves).

Having used the various Gillette systems I have noticed that once a new system is released, the fine shave that I had soon becomes very poor and I am forced to look at the new system and the cycle starts all over again. Bought a cut throat razor, fine on straight areas, however could not pluck up the courage to shave top lip (maybe this is why Victorian gentlemen all had moustaches!)

Funnily enough my husband has also been complaining of Mach 3 blades (he's been using that system for years). They just don't last long enough nor shave well enough plus they are too expensive. They were really good when they first came out years ago. I wondered if it was the machines that are used to tool the blades that are wearing out. He's on the looking out for a better razor (blade). I think he bought some from Lidl to try but I'm not sure if he's actually used them yet.
