hi ,i'm 53 years old and have just been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. i'm waiting to see a dietician , but wondered if anyone has any advice for a healthy diet for a diabetic or prediabetic which is also money saving. i am on benefits as i have several healtg problems . thankyou in advance .

my understanding is that a low carb diet is good for diabetics..... i am sure there is some research on the internet you could probably find

it doesnt have to be expensive u can eat lean protein and salads and veg

See also the research for Vitamin D and Diabetes (http://www.vitamindcouncil.com/researchDiabetes.shtml) you will find it much easier to control if you body is getting sufficient Vitamin d3 to meet it's daily need (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/77/1/204) It would be interesting if you asked your dietician to comment on that research. Do be aware though that vit d food sources supply only 2% of your daily need 98% from sunlight so during the Winter Early Spring you need to supplement or live abroad.
