Previous moisturiser thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=327896) much of the information given in this thread will be applicable to this thread also.

But you do have to be aware that in order for your skin to be protected from aging it needs OMEGA 3 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=16467281&query_hl=7&itool=pubmed_docsum), now it doesn't matter if that comes from fish oil, cod liver oil or flaxseed but you need to consider How can I get more omega 3 fatty acids in my daily meals?: answer (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=75#answer)

Similarly the vitamin D system in skin may be part of an intrinsic protective mechanism against UV damage (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=17170736&query_hl=5&itool=pubmed_docsum) and as Healthy men seem to use 3000–5000 IU cholecalciferol/d, (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/77/1/204) common sense tells us that if you consume less that this daily during the Winter (when the main source sunlight isn't available) those cells that require D3 may suffer.

Want a great anti ageing treatment and moisturiser in one that lasts ages reduces scars and wrinkles and is in all the most expensive brands of skincare.
Get yourself some Rosehip Oil ( GOOLE it or Rosa Mosqueta) full of Efa's vitamin C Retinol Beta carotene and whats more completely natural.
It the best thing I and my freinds have ever used great on wrinkles excema etc bottle lasts around 8 months £6.99 for 50ml .
Have tried a few brands but this is the cheapeast I have found and is excellent quality organic and cold pressed.

Shea Butter is also excellent.
Try using Shea Butter its cheap lasts ages 100g and is fantastic on skin plus no water or chemical preservatives so its very concentrated also full of natural vitamins.

The absolute best moisturiser ever (and believe me - I've seen the doctor countless times about my dry skin), is Aqueous Cream.

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100000160.html

Cheap as chips (less than £2 for a 500g tub of it from any chemist), and does the job fantastically because it has no soap in. It's also a cleansing agent so when you wash your face - use it instead of your normal facewash and pat your skin dry and you won't need to use a moisturiser because it leaves a thin layer of oil on the surface to stop moisture evaporating off your face which can cause it to dry out.

unfortunately it is a case of trial and error. what works for one person does not work as well for another. even if both have 'dry skin'.

try a few and stick with the one that works

I have used this for years but never ever thought of trying this on my face and now I feel I have to....

After reading some medical skin experts views on moisturisers a while ago, I always look to see if the ingredient Sodium Hyalauronate/Hyaluronic Acid is included in a moisturiser, as it's one of the very few hydrating substances to actually penetrate the skin.

So many of the big brand names do not have it, but if you skim down the ingredients list you can see if it's there. Some brands will have it in one formulation (like Sensitive or Day or Night) but not in another.

I have a 'Simple' Night Moisturiser which has it (and it says it can be used on the eye area too so I don't have to buy a seperate eye cream :D ) but the Day Moisturiser doesn't have it. Lidl also did a day moisturiser with Sodium Hyalauronate and with Q10.

I have started using E45 and that's made a big difference to my skin as i have really dry skin on my face.
I also use a hydrating face pack once a week and a gentle facial scrub 2-3 times a week.

Another vote for E45 cream from me too. You can buy a tube, which means that you're not contaminating the whole batch...........as you might do when dabbing your finger into a pot of cream.;)

I heard that Plastic Surgeons recommend it for aftercare (massaging) of facial surgery scars.

Well I find mine reasonably priced because it is so fantastic and it lasts me months. It costs about £20.

Estee Lauder DayWear Plus for Dry Skin. I like the fact it has anti-oxidants and SPF 15 in it. I have tried so many, from the very cheap to even dearer than this one, and I haven't found one better, so its worth the money for me.

I used to work on a plastic surgery ward and we used E45 for aftercare, especially on donor sites, where skin has been took for skin grafts.

to prevent scarring any moisturiser is ok - e45, aqueous cream.
actually if it contains sunscreen, then even better.

don't get a tub of aqeous cream. once open it is a breeding ground for bacteria. get a tub with a push down dispenser.
